  1. Having only one person listed as agent doesn't determine how you should file. The agent is the person designated to act as the representative and be the contact person for legal matters of the LLC. Is there a section that pertains to ownership or issuance of the shares of stock included in the articles of incorporation? The fact that both signed is not indicative that the wife is not the sole owner. A corporation can have officers that are not owners. Are there titles indicated with each of their signatures, or does it say something like "member" there?
  2. That's true, but I'm not really worried about that. I still have back to 2009 on this computer plus having the discs, and now know that I still have access to download the programs through MyATX. If all of that failed to get me back to an old ATX return, I may as well retire ( <-- ), Drake provides the programs available for download back to tax year 2002 that I could use. When I switched to Drake for the 2012 tax year, I transferred every return to their 2011 program and tied every bit of the information in as if it had been prepared in that program. From those files, I then rolled over to 2012 for the first year I actually prepared with that program. That gives me 3 years' returns already on Drake too, and I have the ability to download any of their programs easily from their server any time needed.
  3. I've used Thomson Reuters Fixed Asset CS for years, first in the firm where I worked, and purchased that for my own firm 20 years ago. It is a comprehensive program with lots of help and information about the laws built into it, will track tax, book, AMT, ACE, and other. It has the ability to customize reports, sort and print with a variety of choices (such as by location, one location only, by type, etc.), print comparatives for the methods of user's choosing, future depreciation, amt adjustment report, and much more. It handles mass asset dispositions easily. I use it for my accounting clients with hundreds of assets and multiple locations, and for my tax clients with larger commercial rentals. It is always up-to-date and handles it all with ease. Last I checked the initial year's purchase was expensive, around $1,500, but then is ~ $300 each year thereafter to renew the site license and get each year's updated programs. I only paid a couple of hundred all those years ago and the annual license cost is reasonable to me to continue on with it.
  4. Thanks. I logged on and found that I could download, if ever needed. I also have all of my archive discs with their install codes.
  5. 13. I didn't sell the mutual fund and didn't get the money. All I did was transfer the money from one mutual fund to another, so I don't have to report that.
  6. 7. I donated a brand new _____ (sofa, or whatever) a month ago to charity. It cost me $2,000 so that's what I can deduct.
  7. cmeashey423, I sent you a PM.
  8. ILLMAS, I think too broad also. In addition to what others said, the 1095-B isn't required yet but MAY be issued in 2015 for the 2014 if the employer or insurance company chooses to implement early.
  9. Interesting. Can someone who is no longer an ATX subscriber still download the older programs that were purchased? I know that I can still access MyATX and see my old install codes there. Can I still download too? I thought the archive was the only option at that point. ETA - I see that I can still access the download center and the prior programs. Obviously I didn't try the link since I have those years still on this computer.

I agree, it is stupid. Is it because they don't store the prints or only keep them for a certain length of time like with immigration? I did a search and came up with a bunch of hits for expired fingerprints related to immigration services and found this article. The same article appeared in the Wall Street Journal but I couldn't access it: http://www.post-gazette.com/news/nation/2005/06/29/Fingerprints-don-t-change-but-they-do-expire/stories/200506290172
  11. The safer alternative would be to install from the archive disc on another computer and restore or import those returns that are needed from your backup media.
  12. KC, for some reason I couldn't find it easily when I did a search either. I saw in the contents section of the bill that it was in sec 127 and just started reading from there.
  13. In HR 5771, sec 127(c ) it states - "(c ) ELECTION .—Section 179(c )(2) is amended by striking ‘‘2014’’ and inserting ‘‘2015’’ Link to bill: https://www.congress.gov/113/bills/hr5771/BILLS-113hr5771pcs.pdf Sec 179(c )(2) before the extenders read as follows, and I added strikethrough for the change: (2) Election irrevocable Any election made under this section, and any specification contained in any such election, may not be revoked except with the consent of the Secretary. Any such election or specification with respect to any taxable year beginning after 2002 and before 2014 2015 may be revoked by the taxpayer with respect to any property, and such revocation, once made, shall be irrevocable.
  14. If you had the program set to automatically check for program and form updates when the program starts, it is still trying to do that. Since you are no longer an ATX user, this error you are seeing is most likely due to the program trying to connect, and you've been cut off from the ATX server for any updates since your departure. The last thing I did with my ATX programs before terminating my relationship with ATX was to turn that function off. It is the same thing that happens if the internet connection is inaccessible when the program starts.
  15. The MeF system will accept the current and prior 2 years returns. The e-file system is shut down right now to get ready for the coming season and will be accessible again when the season opens for e-filing again on 1/20/15. At that time you should be able to e-file the current year of 2014 and the 2 prior years of 2012 or 2013. Sorry, I don't have a specific answer about the back year Ohio return.
  16. but they can't reach the keyboard or the plate of cookies!
  17. So even with clicking retry several times, you aren't ever able to open the program?
  18. Here's to a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2015!
  19. Margaret, it seemed well thought out, covered all of your points, and was professional while keeping a polite tone. Well done!
  20. Thanks, Jack. I knew it was a simple question, and I did find that. I wanted to be sure I didn't miss some update on another page or published elsewhere. I admit to not thinking too clearly these days. I was very ill for a week after Thanksgiving and can't seem to shake the last of it. I think I had a few good days in mid-December, the rest have been a struggle. This is not the way I like to feel going into the season. Ugh!
  21. Just to ask a very simple question to make sure I didn't completely miss something obvious - Am I correct that employers that filed fewer than 250 W-2s for 2013 are still under the transitional relief that allows those employers to not have to report the cost of employer-provided health insurance on the 2014 form W-2s, code DD?
  22. ^ This is no problem. All the company is doing is giving a valued employee a raise, nothing more. Report the wages on the W-2 in the usual manner. It is not related to health insurance.
  23. I still have prior to 2013 all on paper, and like you, I will always have permanent files on some clients, especially for the businesses and trusts. I also have some broker stmts too. I will be cleaning out another year's archive records out of storage soon and shredding it into confetti.
  24. I went totally paperless starting with the 2013 individual returns, and still with paper for workpapers and returns for my business clients (not sch c's). I did keep pdfs of business returns also for easy access of those returns too. I haven't decided if I'll go paperless for the businesses also, but probably not.
  25. I don't understand exactly what Turbo Tax expects you do if you don't have original source docs. How could you, or anyone, check the return? Are you supposed to be reviewing the input, or are you supposed to check the program for its accuracy, or only for illogical entries, or just what are you supposed to be doing? You really shouldn't need TT or to redo any work if you are acting only as a reviewer.
