  1. How long did it take you to get thru on the hotline?
  2. Sure, but how long will it take them to open the mail and handle the check correctly?
  3. Sara, almost all of Big Tech is doing all of those things. However, I have seen articles in "How to Geek" etc. that tell you how to turn off most of Googles tracking.
  4. Margaret, I also recently turned 75 Although I intend to continue working part time as long as my health will let me. However I spend the majority of my time doing monthly Writeup/Payroll work, not preparing tax returns. I just counted, I will prepare less than 40 tax returns this coming tax season, 13 of which will be Business Entity Returns. If I had to prepare anywhere approaching 100 Form 1040s, I would already be retired. It's just too big of a grind! At some point my wife and will have to downsize, that will be really hard, we have accumulated way too much stuff!

    Drake 2021

Downloaded Drake 2021 and updated all of my clients from 2020 to 2021 today. Everything went very smoothly.
  6. Good Summary article: https://ruraltax.org/files-ou/Related_Parties.pdf
  7. Yeah, I recently took a screenshot of my text messages with a client and then forwarded them to my email so I could print the conversation. Not very quick.
  8. I dropped my fax line a year ago with no regrets. I plan on dropping my landline after this tax season. Right now I think that 70% of my communication is by email, 20 % by text and 10 % by phone. Actually the biggest issue is that younger clients don't check their emails.
  9. Just make sure that both A and B both feel like they have been given fair and objective advice which results in both clients satisfied, which needs to documented in writing and signed by both clients.
  10. You are in a potential "conflict of interest" situation, which might require letters signed by both of your clients.
  11. Subsequent articles say that EdgeDeflector has been revised to get around the Microsoft block, which MS will probably block, since Microsoft has stated that apps like EdgeDeflector are in violation of MS policies. Also Microsoft is now blocking Firefox users from accessing microsoft.com and other associated domains because Firefox has been in of violation of some Microsoft technical specifications since 2016.
  12. If everything was clear cut in black and white then we would be out of business.
  13. That's my impression subject to the following: "There are some scenarios where shareholders of an S corp can complete a 1031 exchange on legacy assets, but that requires owning and operating the asset as an active business investment -- likely the exact opposite scenario when dissolution of the corporation is the main objective or when shareholders are at loggerheads due to competing financial interest"
  14. Capital Gains and Net Investment Income Tax
  15. Actually, I used Firefox for many years before I had repeated issues with Firefox and switched over to Chrome. I don't like switching back and forth between browsers.

  17. Good article: "Don’t start construction on preparing the house for your personal use right after acquiring it" "The principal question is your intent when you acquired the replacement property. If you sincerely intended to treat it as investment property and not to move into it at the first opportunity, then you are on the right track. How can you prove that intent? If you can’t meet the safe harbor test discussed below, the best way is to actually use the property for investment purposes for a significant period of time after its acquisition. If you rent the house out at fair market value for at least a year (according to some commentators), then you likely have shown you acquired the property with investment intent. If you merely put up a good show, on the other hand, such as listing it for rent at an amount that is significantly higher than market, or not even listing it at all, the IRS will see right through that" Sometimes it's amazing how hard it is protect clients from themselves.
  18. I still use CCleaner several times a week and I haven't noticed any sign in problems with Chrome, probably because I am only using Chrome associated apps.
  19. "Microsoft has decided to block the popular third-party app EdgeDeflector on Windows 11. The app helps users open links on browsers such as Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. With the new move, Microsoft will now force Windows 11 users to open URLs from Start menu and Widgets panel search results only on Edge browser. EdgeDeflector developer Daniel Aleksandersen criticised the blocking by saying the company appears to be prioritising “advertisement, bundleware, and service subscriptions” over user' productivity, as per a blog post"
  20. I don't do it every day, perhaps 2 or 3 times a week.
  21. Please join me and make a donation to support our community. Thanks, Lee
  22. I have had sites where clearing my browser history solved any issues.
  23. Perhaps this online class sponsored by CPA Practice Advisor will show me how to get my clients to fill out their Tax Organizers. This started off my day with a good belly laugh "How can you better automate client interactions? Find out tomorrow"
  24. Today Microsoft released 67 different security fixes. Does this mean Microsoft makes bad software or does this mean that hackers are really aggressive right now? What's the alternative to using Windows?
