  1. A lot of people are suddenly going to be pregnant, every year. When the IRS started requiring SSN for dependents, 10s of millions of dependents just disappeared.
  2. You have the tax season sillies! It's better than crying, but that works too.
  3. SMLLCs are disregarded, so the IRS was correct. Now if the operating LLC was taxed as an S corp, then the S corp could pay rent to the other disregarded LLC.
  4. CCH owned ATX in 2012.
  5. Schwab sent out an email saying corrected 1099s were being sent out.
  6. I've seen them over a year late. But I've also never seen worth amending for.
  7. My Schwab 1099 is fine. It even says that line 1 includes 1b, 2e and 5.
  8. Preferences, Print, Print without zeroes. One of the first things I check every year.
  9. I use Backblaze. It's fast, works well and it's reasonably priced. But I've heard that a database like ATX might be unusable when using an online backup because of the way both databases and online backups work. Some online service have a separate database backup option.
  10. Can you hire someone to open, save and close all the returns in 2022?
  11. Those old disks won't do anybody any good because the forms servers for those years are long gone, so you won't be able to download any forms.
  12. Cash basis deducts when paid. MD makes you add back any PTE tax for the year it is passed out to the owners, so if you pay it after year end, you have ghost income at the state level, via the add back, in one year, but a federal deduction the following year when the tax is actually paid, without a corresponding add back. Refunds will be at the individual level, unless refunded to the business. There doesn't appear to be a built in method for the refund to be taxed for federal in the year it is received by the individual, even if the individual is itemizing because the PTE tax was never deducted on the Sch A.
  13. https://www.irs.gov/retirement-plans/retirement-plans-faqs-regarding-simple-ira-plans#depositing When must I make the matching and nonelective contributions? You must make matching and nonelective contributions to the financial institution maintaining the SIMPLE IRA no later than the due date for filing your business's income tax return, including extensions
  14. It's called adulting.
  15. It only helps if they can do basic math.
  16. The IRS has a page to calculate the W4. I personally like the new W4. What I tell my clients is the percentage that they need to have withheld to breakeven. Then they can look at their pay stub and see if they are having about that percentage withheld.
  17. I'm not sure what your issue is but you might have moved your data wrong, if you mean that you used ATX to restore its backups of returns.
  18. Finally bought a new computer with 11 Pro and it was shutting down when not in use. After several days of troubleshooting, I determined it was a Windows issue. Turns out it's an issue with hibernation. I never use hibernation so I opened Control Panel advanced power settings and set hibernation to never. Don't know how often this happens, but when I first searched for solutions, I found posts from a year ago that this was a problem. It's nice to know that Control Panel still exists with all its familiar screens, since the dumbed down Settings screen is so limited.
  19. Just enter the ones that matter. And if you don't know which ones matter, you shouldn't be preparing taxes.
  20. Exploratory expenses are not deductible but since this business actually started operating (did it really?) then the expenses are deductible as start up costs.
  21. I have encountered times when after making changes or fixes to a computer that restarting the computer several times has fixed things. Windows is such a massive and complicated software that oddities are more the norm than the exception. I've seen windows behave differently on two perfectly identical computers.
  22. I haven't seen this year's config file yet, but it was always the first 1 you change to a 2,
  23. ATX makes a backup when you CLOSE a return, not when you open it. I like to open a return and close it before making any entries so I can restore to a clean file if needed. Also like to close ever 20 minutes or so to make a progress backup. You can run Admin Console to see both your data location and your backup location, but if you haven't changed from the default it will be here: C:\ProgramData\Wolters Kluwer\ATX 2023 Server Note that ProgramData is a hidden folder by default in Windows, but you can change options in View settings in File Explorer to show hidden files and folders.
  24. Go to the ATX program folder and look for ATX.exe.config file. Open it with Notepad Select Ctrl+F (find) and search for Memory. Scroll down and you will see two sets of long numbers with max values. One starts with an 18 and a bunch of numbers behind it the next starts with 16 (print Memory). Change the 1 to a 2 in each set of numbers. Then save it. Make sure you have all the permissions to have full control to save it or it won't save. Try right-clicking the file and choosing Take Ownership, or making a copy of the file, renaming the old file with .old extension, then editing the copy.
