  1. Thank you so very much. I still have people finding me for taxes but I usually block them. How do I tell them that I don't love them anymore? I moved, changed my numbers and they still find me. Karen
  2. I am retired now but still do my own tax return. I am in need of a fixed asset manager for my own stuff. Cost is a consideration since it is only for myself. What do you recommend? DO NOT MISS WORKING!!! Thanks Karen
  3. Here I am. Just checking in. I do not miss working. My mother passed in May 2015. I have moved away from Morton, WA to Tacoma, WA and will be moving again to Cle Elum, WA in the next 60 days. Have 8 Norwegian Fjord horses, 80 chickens, 2 dogs and 1 cat. We are into snow sports so Cle Elum is perfect plus the weather is a lot drier and the bones will feel better. I am looking for a stand alone fixed asset manager for personal use. What do you recommend? Since this is only for me, cost is a factor.
  4. walked away 4/30/15...........collecting social security now
  5. I have one on my desk in that same position and I am totally confused. Below 100% of poverty level and having to payback APTC. I am obviously missing something. Karen
  6. Being from the land of no state income tax... I have searched the Utah state website and can't find the answer. I called and the automated answering system said there weren't enough people to handle the call volume and to call back later. REALLY!!! Thanks for the help. Karen
  7. Client forms an LLC but does not file an SS-4. Client does not have papers of organization just filled out state application. Client has contracting business but the LLC is only for the "rentals". Client states that they will be treated as sole proprietor (disregarded entity) for the LLC. I don't believe they have filed a new business application for a UBI for the LLC. Does an SS4 have to be filed for the LLC? The LLC paperwork was filed in late 2014 but the client doesn't want it to be effective until 2015. Can the filing for LLC business be put "on hold" until the client "feels like" using it. My last year and can't stand this. Very "short timers" attitude. Karen
  8. Taxpayer and Spouse had all year coverage through Taxpayer employer. Spouse's daughter and granddaughter live with taxpayer and spouse. Daughter and granddaughter had full year coverage through the exchange at zero dollars (medicaid). Daughter and granddaughter lived with them all year. Tax family all had coverage all year. Check box 61. Use daughter and granddaughter as dependents. No more to be done however a 1095-A will be issued for daughter and granddaughter. Daughter has no filing requirement. EIC not an issue. Will taxpayer's income affect healthcare benefits for daughter later on? I just don't understand how it will all work. Tell me what you think. Thanks Karen
  9. I have been doing that Tom. I keep getting "What am I going to do?" and they get really upset when I say "I don't care". I am moving to so I won't even run into them at the store. HEE HEE Still would like to see something in writing about the W-2 in my hands prior to preparation. Karen
  10. This is the last season for me and I am not sure I am going to make it through the whole season. I cannot find a cite that states we have to use the W-2 for preparation and not the last pay stub but I know we have to. I have a client that has made an appt. called 7 times and even had her MIL call then the last call was...I don't have husband's W-2 but we can use his last pay stub. Sorry....make another appt after you have the W-2. She makes an appt for Monday but doesn't have the W-2 yet...really? Please tell me where to get the cite so I can include it in her packet to take home. Another client called, made a appt. didn't show up, called the next day and said her boyfriend didn't know about the appt so he let her sleep. She wanted another appt as soon as possible but was told that 3 people wanted her original appt time and I was booked for 2 weeks. Another local bookkeeper e-mailed me so I could create 1099-MISC for one of her clients. She did forget to put amounts in the e-mail. Last year I did this for her and she called a couple days later to say that the amount was incorrect and I needed to re-do the 1099-MISC. This year I told her that I didn't buy the software. Mostly rant and thanks, Karen
  11. OK...last tax season coming up. Will scrape name off window. 62 in June. I'm just done. Just got back for NATP Tax Forum in Vegas....ACA is scary and so is Cir 230 and consents and criminality of 7216.
  12. Thanks Lynn. Last year when I renewed my PTIN it asked if I have or will complete CPE by Dec 31. Of course I am RTRP and all of that has been thrown out. So there are no CPE requirements for PTIN renewal for non-credentialed preparers. Now my friend will renew for 2015 filing season and not need to complete any CPE.
  13. OK so the PTIN CPE requirements still exist. What is the PTIN CPE requirement? I can't find anything. I will be getting more than any requirement however the question is: What is the requirement for PTIN CPE?
  14. My friend just got her PTIN for 2014 and will be renewing for 2015 next month and I cannot find anything about CPE requirements. What are they or where would I find the information? Thanks Karen
  15. Love my Medlin. I do about 10 payrolls and it is nice to access different years without having to get into the paper files. My questions are answered instantly with a phone call. I finally had to retire my payroll program that I had for 15 years when Social Security went to 4.2% and couldn't be changed in the old program and my personal geek squad was really tired of making the DOS program run on new computers. So my geek squad loves Medlin too. The price is so nice. I do use ATX also and use the W-2 Compliance feature as well. Thanks Medlin Karen Lee
  16. Thank you. I have been procrastinating on this one and now they want me to finish it up. I am leaving for my aunt's funeral and will be gone for 3 days so my procrastination has now bit me. Thank you so much. My aunt and I had a very close relationship so it is very hard for me.
  17. this primary residence was a rental for a short period of time (18 mo) during the 2 out of 5 year qualification. Where is the instructions for dealing with the partial rental and depreciation recapture? Thanks
  18. You must report the sale of your principal residence if you have a gain and do not qualify to exclude all of it, or you choose not to take the exclusion. When you complete your federal tax return, you must complete federal Schedule D (Form 1040), Capital Gains and Losses. A copy of your federal return, and all the supporting schedules must be attached to your California return. Generally, your California gain is the same as federal, so no adjustment is required on your California return. However, if your California basis in the home differs from your federal basis, complete California Schedule D, California Capital Gain or Loss Adjustment.
  19. The balance of estate is cash approx. $200,000. 2 heirs I understand the final return but establish an estate and estate return for inventory of books? I think I got to the "I don't know" section of tax season. I can't think. Well I can think but it doesn't make any sense to me. Thanks Karen
