  1. A spell checker should have flagged "flaw's" -- or a grammar checker might have shown that flaws doesn't have an apostrophe.
  2. I'd stick a post-it over it with the new rates for the range of ounces you encounter (with another column for large envelopes) -- I'm sure your scale will read in ounces. I have a nice digital scale from 1991 when postage was .29 for the first ounce. Over the years when postage changed I whipped out a new post-it.
  3. One of the secrets of wise investing is to now convince others to give them 24K for the secret. Sort of Pay-it-Forward.
  4. "...of each year of the entire RMD when there is a fowl up." Does that mean the bird is just awake or does it have to be actually flying? I realize that may be a foul question of someone on morphine.
  5. It's a good thing I don't read the instructions -- think of all the time I save! I'll wait for the Cliff Notes version.

    I'm Board

No, you might be bored, but where you posted your comment is a board.
  7. I haven't seen a naming contest for Mel's new software, so let me kick it off by suggesting MelTax. Or Mellow Tax (right out of the good old 60's)
  8. Time + PITA (Pain-in-the-a$$) Factor, like always!
  9. A woman walks into the Post Office to buy stamps for her Christmas cards. "What denomination?" asks the clerk. "Oh, good heavens! Have we come to this?" said the woman. "Well, give me 50 Baptist and 50 Catholic and one Methodist."
  10. On the tab "1040 EF INfo" check fourth choice at top of page 1, then add name in "C" -- rep info will appear in next line below address in TP info.
  11. Whoever put that in the bulletin may have helped con artists to steal elderly member's identities. It would be interesting to see if the phone number actually rings at a real Liberty Tax office -- if it does, then they just exercised poor judgement rather than extremely poor judgement.
  12. No, you can scan the W-2's and the signature form 8879 and keep the PDF's for the required 3 years.
  13. Good thing those IRS employees aren't giving tax advice.
  14. Thanks, MakeMini. Appreciate your efforts.
  15. I'd like a copy if you get it to upload. Thanks
  16. She got 107 salon visits for free. What did the salon get? Free advertising? Last one of these I saw involved trading "free" services for "free" radio advertising. I think the IRS considers this barter. Should she report the value of 107 visits as income? Maybe she ought to worry about more than non-deductible personal expenses.
  17. I bet the employer knows to the penny how much was billed to that company credit card for 2007 -- use that as reimbursement against standard mileage rate.
  18. I got a copy of the IA Dept of Rev letter -- two pages including a recalculation of the tax. Clients are confused, worried about being marked for audit for years to come -- all the usual fear and loathing of the whole tax process. The phone calls are coming -- time for hand holding and soothing. I don't have time for this crap! Thanks a lot, ATX, for screwing up a tax calculation that hasn't changed for years.
  19. ATX has been calculating the tax wrong on all IA 1040's until this morning. I noticed a return that I printed and had signed yesterday changed this morning after I did an update. The Form Update Report shows that the IA 1040 changed to "Ver 10 - Calc of p2 line 43 corrected for filing status 2 (MFJ)." But a quick check shows my previous returns ALL changed, including Status 3 (MFS). The bottom line seems to be only a few dollars, but look how far off they were getting there: L 42 Filer, Taxable Income 33,921, tax 1,724 - correct tax 1,791 L 42 Spouse, Taxable Income 42,971, Tax 2,503 - correct tax 2,436 Total is the same, but after the school surtax the bottom line refund went down $1. Another return with more income difference in the spouses' incomes showed a change of $8. Check all of your Iowa returns after updating today and you'll see the corrected #'s show large changes, but the bottom line changes are relative small. Taxpayers probably won't notice the different refund, but they'll all get notices from the Department of Revenue that their taxes were computed incorrectly. Speaking of which one client called the other day to tell me they already got such a letter; I haven't seen it yet as they're mailing it to me - now I know why they got it! Their refund went down $52.
  20. Funny is OK here -- but endless reports on and responses to what someone has eaten or is going to eat are tiresome, stale, and boring. Get a new act, please. If you're going to set up another section, make it for reports on what is going into (or coming out of) people's bodies.
  21. Yes, just pulling your leg, but I am curious what sort of file size difference there is between Adobe and PDF Factory. Have you run the same thing through both to see what the sizes are?
  22. Perhaps, but PDF Factory was free and Adobe is lots of money -- but maybe you've got a silver mine up there in Montana:)
  23. The file sizes for returns using the built-in pdf in ATX are 4 to 5 times larger than the same returns using PDF Factory. Pick a return and do it both ways, then compare the file size.

    File Names

You can set the number anywhere from 1 to 5.
  25. Rather than write my own, maybe someone has or has seen a good one.
