  1. I can't believe TRX is still in business. For those of you who are new to their software, it is not reliable at all. Last year Tax Firms and Tax Preparers using TRX had a combined lost of hundred of thousand of dollars. Not only that but I doubt that the software issues caused by TRX may have affected return customes for this coming tax season. I dont advise to purchase TRX software since they were so irresponsable last year making changes to their software during the heaviest tax preparation times causing a tremendous loss for all of of us. Their business has not ever been in Tax Software Development. Their business has bee based in retail only...selling someone elses software and providing tech support at a lower price. IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GREAT TAX SEASON, STRESS FREE, THEN DON'T PURCHASE TRX SOFTWARE. I highly recommend UTAX a reatailer for Crosslink software. UTAX will work out a great price for you. Good luck. Elsa
  2. New for 2012: The Tennessee Department of Revenue is now accepting Individual Income Tax returns for tax year 2012 through the IRS Modernized E-File program (MEF). This partnership between states and the Internal Revenue Service allows tax preparers to include the state tax return and any associated payment with its electronically filed federal return. The Department of Revenue will accept Individual Income Tax (INC250) and Application for Extension of Time to File (INC251). Click here for a list of current certified vendors. You must first select the certified software vendor from whom you will obtain the software that will be used to file the electronic return. Once a vendor has been selected, you must contact the vendor and arrange to use the vendor's software. You will also, at this time, determine if you will file your return and payment at the same time using the vendor's software or if you will file the return only and pay using the new income payment voucher form (INC253). If you have any questions, please contact the Electronic Commerce Unit: Statewide toll-free (866) 368-6374; Nashvile-area and out-of-state (615) 253-0704.
  3. Have several returns with the no tax due or refund box checked on the state e-file info. Return shows refund. Tried deleting and recreating state return, discard e-file info page, reboot computer AND server. Recreate e-file info page and comes back just as it was. Accepts direct deposit info etc. BUT shows 0.00 refund. Anybody see this?
  4. I have sent 1120 returns with direct debit scheduled on March 15. However, every single return I file with direct debit scheduled rejected with following code; Error Code : X0000-005 The XML data has failed schema validation. I checked my return and refiled but same rejection. Is anyone have any idea what is this about? Thank you.
  5. I have a return that Federal has been accepted. On e-file center the state shows rejected but no reject codes. On my e-file program the state is listed as held. I have gone into the return and re-created it with no errors but when I go to send it it still shows held. Can any one help> Thanks.
  6. Have had 2 instances....this doesn't happen every time however: Both Federal and State returns were created. After they were created, I even printed out the E-File Creation Results which does verify that BOTH returns were created. This is the screen you see within the return after the returns are created. However, when trying to transmit the returns from the "created" menu, ONLY the Federal return shows as being created, therefore, the State return can not be transmitted as the State return box can not be checked to indicate it needs to be transmitted. As it's impossible to reach the Customer Service line, hopefully, ATX will see this and call me. (Cathy @ 225-627-5140)
  7. After dealing with all of the issues relating to the new and improved software I am still unable to e file. My forms are not available according to the software. So I am not only having to deal with the slowness of the software I am still unable to file anything for my clients. Is anyone having the same issues or has had this issues and figured a way to solve it? Any help at this point would be great. I could deal with the speed if I was able to at least file.
  8. When generated e-file or check return, receive the following errors -Required federal e-file failed. -The Savings or Checking box for Direct Deposit should be checked. -The Account number entered on this form must be the same as that entered on the 'Payment and Refund' tab of the EFINFO. - The Routing nuber entered on this form must be the same as that entered on the 'Payment and Refund' tab of the EFINFO. I found the article described the above messages and followed the instructions to 'Restore Field' on both 1040 and EFinfo but same errors. I do not customize any form. The returns that received these messages are those clients do not use Direct Deposit. There are xxxxxx on the 1040 and blank on EFINFO page. At first, I thought the rollover process add some invisible characters and cause the problem. However, this also happens on the new return. Please helps!
  9. How do you e-file a return with a foreign address? I keep getting asked for state and zip code. Thanks
  10. I have several clients with over 500 capital gains transactions from managed brokerage accounts. Since I prepare enough returns to be required to EFile them I am trying to figure out how to attach a PDF to prevent me from having to input each transaction. When I enter transactions as a group (short-term losses, short-germ-gains, etc) on the input forms I have to use "various" since all were acquired and sold on differing dates. ATX will not create an EFile with "various" in the date field. As a result I cannot even get to EFile manager to attach the PDF of all the transactions. I then requested an excel spreadsheet from the brokerage firms which some of them provided. However the number of shares is in one column, description in another, etc. When I try to import the Sch D transactions after converting from excel to CSV files I get errors since I cannot merge the excel columns to put both # of shares and description into one column. In addition when "mapping" the columns into Schedule D, there is nothing provided for adjustment amounts so these also have to be added manually. In addition, Morgan Stanley files have additional information in the columns which we cannot use and ATX will not allow me to import. USB sent an excel spreadsheet but it also contains the # shares in one column and the description in another. The only thing I can think of is to manually add the # of shares on each line. Merrill Lynch broker says they cannot provide excel files but they sent me the PDF which I refer to in the first paragraph. Has anyone had any luck EFiling a taxpayer with a large number of transactions using excel (converted to CSV) or attaching a PDF without having to input or modify every transaction. If so, could you please share how you did it?
  11. I was the victim of a Ponzi type scheme starting in 2006; discovered in 2009 and claimed as a theft loss on my taxes last year. I would like to use the balance of my losses against my income for 2010. My problem is finding a clear explanation of how to calculate the carry forward amount after the first year. All government publications, that I've found, treat the loss as a business loss when the definition of what happened is considered a theft. As a business loss, the calculations take into account long and short term capital gains and losses which have nothing to do with this loss! And, the calculation done with form 1045 Schedule B deducts my income to calculate the carryforward. Shouldn't the loss be carried forward without these deductions? Help!!
  12. I realize it's a little early, but since last year was my first efiling, I ended up using paper 4868s for extensions. Since I typically see only 1 spouse of a joint 1040, I have trouble enough getting 2 signatures on a 8879, much less 2 more for an 8878 (whereas a non-paying 4868 doesn't need any signatures & I can mail it myself). Any help on how others handle this?
  13. My employer has two different companies that I have worked for, so I received two different W2's from him. One had an incorrect SSN, and the other was missing the state ID number. They corrected them and printed me out new ones, but now that I am filing online, I am wondering... Should I mark these as corrected W2's? I know that literally they are, but they are not marked as Form W2-c. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  14. On my E-file Manager tab, I notice that some of my Ohio e-files have a sub-type of "Direct State" and others are "State Only" the returns have the same forms (Fed, Ohio, School)....why the different sub-types?
  15. Alright, the upgrade is finished, but there are still some broken things that I'm taking care of. You'll notice that some people's avatars are busted, that's first on my list to correct. If you notice anything that seems out of place, please mention it here! Some of the new features aren't enabled yet, as I'm still configuring them. I'm adding a tagging system soon. I'm going to add all of the state abbreviations as tags that can be associated with topics, but I'm looking to you folks to provide me with more tags that would be useful, such as tax terms (NOL, EFILE, AMT, etc) so please list those here as well, especially terms shorter than the minimum 4 characters that are allowed in the search.
