when you hit stop - why can't it just stop!!

How many times have you hit the transmit button only to see you've selected the wrong file, or didn't remember that you had to fix something. And you hit stop - or maybe it's cancel - and it keeps going until the whole transmission goes thru anyway. Why can't it just stop!

Or - maybe there could be a limbo land that it stays in for a few minutes when you could still retrieve it.

I have a couple of amendments to make now.

FWIW, TaxWorks through TRX does this. From the software, you send it to the EF center. Then you log in there and tell it which ones to send. It will then show you the which files are still at the software company and which are at IRS. I ran into a similar problem and found that the file was still at the software company and was able to delete it from there before it went to IRS. I'm not sure if you can delete it once it is at IRS - I haven't had to try that.

Granted that was a couple of years ago. With the new MeF, I'm not sure I could have caught it in time. And, yes, that means you have to mark the files you're ready to e-file twice. So it may not seem like a good system to everyone.

When I switched to ProSystem fx and was having support talk me through my first efile, they told me to use Export & Hold. I asked why I shouldn't just export it for immediate efile. They told me it gave me one more time to catch it, even though more steps. Yes, I then log into the efile software and choose which files to release. It has saved me from filing amendments!

I have not been holding the states until after the federal is accepted. Reading some of the discussions here, I might want to start that practice.
