BulldogTom
I have not done one of these in a long time. TP donated a home. I have the appraisal. Please confirm that I need to send in the 8453 with the appraisal and the 8283 after I efile? Thanks for your help. Tom Modesto, CA
Abby Normal
I've just scanned and attached before. Either way, IRS isn't looking at it.
BulldogTom
This one is pretty big. Home appraised at over 350K. Client is elderly. I just want to make sure that it is done properly. Thanks Tom Modesto, CA
Lion EA
I attach the appraisal as a .pdf to the return. But, you can mail with the 8453 within 3 (?) days.
Catherine
Attach as pdf to return. That way - if they process the return - you KNOW they got it. If you like the belt, suspenders, duct tape, and staples approach, then mail it too. 4
BulldogTom
Is attaching something to a return one of the subjects Abby is going to teach us at Rita's bbq? But I think I need the instructions before June 23rd. Any help is appreciated. Tom Modesto, CA
Abby Normal
Scan the appraisal to a PDF. Choose E-file MENU and Attach PDF. Scroll to the form 8283 click on an appropriate paper clip. In your case there isn't one so I'd go with Donee Org Ack.\ Ignore warning from ATX that your PDF is too big, and just remember this as the one time you've ever heard that in your life. 2 1

Wrong, i had a client audited for this. These audits are all done out of Washington DC, gifts of appreciated property. Funny is that my client donated a collection of rare items and the IRS agent told me that when he contacted Sotherbys, Smithsonian and I forget the third place, that they told them that my client is the leading expert to appraise these items. We did have an outside appraisal and they eventually accepted it with out too much back and forth.
Abby Normal
Your client was audited because the numbers on the return triggered some program to kick it out for review. That does not mean that the IRS looked at the PDF that was attached to the return.
michaelmars
agree with that but if it wasn't attached the irs would have denied the deduction and then i would have had a different fight on my hands. Plus for this much money the client might have decided to have a tax attorney handle it and then claim my lack of proper filing of the 8453 would make me responsible for his fees too. If you have the appraisal, there is no reason to not supply it properly. [not suggesting that is what you are saying to do]
Lion EA
I've had a couple with the bursar's statement on the back. Much appreciated. Many of my students are aging out. But, the next bubble is coming as I'm seeing HS students with part time jobs.
