Terry D EA
Been looking on the IRS site for information regarding the electronic filing of a 2017 1040 return. Does anyone know?
jklcpa
Status of MeF on IRS page is shown as "nonoperational". The entire MeF system is shutdown for retooling to prepare for the upcoming filing season, and this means no e-filings whatsoever, including the prior year returns. MEF reopening date is TBD. Your only option for the 2017 return at this point is to paper file.
Tax Prep by Deb
And with the Federal government shut down, there is no clue as to when things will be re-opened. Hold on folks, I think this year is going to be a rough and bumpy ride!
Terry D EA
Thanks Judy and Deb, that is exactly what I thought. Oh well, paper file it is.
Lee B
Just to be clear, your paper filed return will not be processed. It will put on the back burner to be worked at some later date after the shutdown finishes. Actually waiting for the shutdown to end and for efiling to restart would more than likely result in a quicker processing turnaround.
