The Internal Revenue Service has approved a seven-day extension for 990, 1120 and 1065 filings that were affected by last week’s outage of Wolters Kluwer’s CCH software.

According to a notice emailed by Wolters Kluwer to customers on Friday, affected filers now have until May 22 to file. Filings that follow the IRS’s instructions won’t be considered to be late, so all penalties and interest will be waived; Wolters Kluwer said it would provide those instructions separately.

The company said that it is working with state tax agencies to obtain similar relief.

The outage first became obvious early last Monday, when users of CCH products began realizing that the cloud-based products were unavailable. According to Wolters Kluwer, the company discovered malware in some of its solutions, and as a precaution took down a wide range of its platforms and applications (see The Wolters Kluwer CCH outage: What happened?).

The company began restoring access later in the week, announcing that one of its flagship CCH products, CCH Axcess, was up again on Wednesday, though e-filing capability was not available at that time (see CCH is back up).
