I have several clients who have not received their refunds.  Many have EIC, is that the problem?

Refundable Credits usually go through what is sometimes called "enhanced electronic screening" looking for indications of fraud or other malfeasance.

If your clients check"Where's My Refund?" and the status is "processing" that means their return has been designated to be reviewed by a live person,

and there is no way to know when that might happen.

I have found those receiving the RRC are also seriously delayed.  One filed second week of February is still pending.  Simple return with no other refundable credits so that is the issue that I can think of that could be delaying it.

I have a couple that fell in a black hole.  Both are using 2019 income to calculate EIC and Child tax credit.  One filed in Feb and the other at the beginning of March.

I have a client that their return was accepted 8 weeks ago and where's my refund still says it's being processed. They don't have any extra credits on it either, just a basic return.

I have been telling my clients there is no rhyme or reason why things are happening with the IRS as they are. Back log, under staffed, utter craziness and you name it. I have been advising the direct draft as the best vehicle for paying a balance due and that went south for a while. So, put all the excuses in a jar under the desk, reach in and pull one out and say this might be it but it is a crap shoot at best. Seriously, I see it taking a few years for the IRS to get back to anything we used to call normal. This goes for some of the states as well.
