schirallicpa
They stay the same. Just roll them over. Pretty please.
Margaret CPA in OH
One just has to remember to check issue and expiration dates but in Ohio that's every 4 years and I have it on the questionnaire. Much easier than reentering again and again and again....
GLJEANNE
YES! Lot of state info I'd like to see rolled over too. I'm keeping a list, but I don't know if it does any good to suggest. I think last year I sent it to my sales rep and asked her to pass it on to who ever.
michaelmars
its NY that doesn't allow this to rollover. Other states do.
Lion EA
I don't think CT allows DL rollover, but then it's still optional to enter for CT residents. So, I don't enter CT DLs unless needed for NY, CO, etc. That did save my butt when a client working in Singapore, so little contact other than via his wife via email, had lost his DL and gotten an entirely new number when he was in the US on biz. So glad I asked for them to confirm their #s before just copying from his prior year return.
cbslee
In my state it's requested but you can decline to provide your DL info with the caveat that your refund may be held up while the state verifies your identity. With my older clients that have years of filed tax returns, not providing their DL info hasn't held up their refunds. I have had several younger clients that didn't provide their DL info whose refunds were held up. State mailed them a letter asking them to call and verify their identity.

Pacun
The idea is that we need to ID every filer each year according to the IRS. I don't think ATX will roll over license info in the near future.
Catherine
We save pic of the DL in every client file. Or a text document with the information, and the file name is "Joe DL exp2025" so we know when we need a new one. Yes, it's a pain. Like supposed to ask for socsec card annually. As if it changes year to year? Gimme a break.
cbslee
A few years ago a young client of mine had 3 different state ID in 4 years. First was pulled for DWI. Second was non driving state ID for 2 years. Third was when her driving privileges were reinstated.
JRS
Drake rolls mine over every year, with issued and expired dates, required or not.
Abby Normal
Put the drivers license number in a note where you can copy and paste it in every year. We used to keep our notes in ATX, and occasionally still do, but mostly they're in an Excel spreadsheet that we copy forward each year.
HV Ken
My understanding is that it is the IRS does not allow this.
Gail in Virginia
I don't think that the IRS cares - this seems to be a state issue. ProSeries actually rolls this information forward and just requires you to click a box that you have verified the information. A couple of times I have been the one that let my clients know that their license was either expired or soon to expire.

Drake rolls it over and flags it so that the preparer has to make a decision to accept it or make some changes on that screen. Eta - I think it is a setup option that Drake give the preparer to roll that information forward or not.
michaelmars
Its not an IRS issue, proseries rolls over most states but not NY
Christian
In Virginia driver's license info is not required so I do not provide. We have enough digits to deal with and, of course, ATX does not roll them.
