  1. I was just at a seminar that they said that if every one waits there are not enough slots for all to take the test.Prometrics will not add any places. These are the same locations that they give EA exams plus numerous other exams.like real estate and securities.

  2. The same thing happened to a client of mine had to put him on installment agreement til I can find out what it is all about. On your 2848 you must list civil penalty. There is one department that handles this and you must write to them.Hot line can only give you the address not give you any information. It has been 60 days no answer.

  3. The $4500 is not income he should not have to pay tax on insurance money. The rental is not worth more after the roof is repaired than before the roof was repaired.I would just net out repairs for the year with the insurance money. If this was his auto and it was in an accident you would not pay taxes on the amount of the insurance repair.I am amazed that the client said he did not use the total money to repair the roof.

  4. Are you sure that they went to Motor Vehicle and put a lien on each vehicle.I have had clients with liens filed but the lien was never put on the auto titles so there was no problem selling or trading the vehicle. You can also call IRS and try to release that vehicle from lien if they went that far.

  5. Two years ago I ordered Taxwise from TRX paid in advance they never delivered it to me and gave me a total run around. They promised a refund then said I would receive a credit directly from CCH nothing has happened they just ripped me off.I paid twice for software that year.

  6. I had a problem with them last year also. They promised me Taxwise I paid in advance they never delivered it.I tried several ways to obtain a refund all in vain.I just wrote it off as a bad deal.In this world when some one offers you something cheaper you must decide if it is really true. Now it looks like it was the best thing since our rebate is very large which we received in June from CCH.

  7. I have great success with Fee Collect. Problem is, with the IRS removing the debt indicators, the costs from the bank will probably become prohibitive, since they will have to use ordinary channels for approval. I am waiting for the banks to drop the shoe on this one.

It will not change the fee at all.The bank does not pay you till it receives the money from IRS.The debt indicator has no effect on these transactions.

  8. I feel just the opposite we do 2500 returns we e-file all returns we can both Federal and State. When I started here they did not e-file state returns if client owed.I wasted many hours trying to figure out why MD took Federal refunds that they had never received the return so they did not bill just made up a return and levied the Federal refund. It is much easier to do e-file it takes maybe 5 minutes a day to check acks.I feel you do a disservice to the client by no e-filing the same way if you did returns by hand.

  9. We have a client who owes around $10,000 from previous years. He has lost his job and lost his home. He is self-employed and lost some of his contracts. His situation appears to be well suited for an Offer in Compromise.

What suggestions do you have for pricing this engagement, obtaining a retainer, etc. ?

We are familiar with the process, but we have never actually submitted one yet.

    Thanks for any advice/assistance.

If things are as bad as you say and he would not be able to an installment agreement than you should be able to put him a non collectible status. The least I have ever done an OIC is $1500.The majors get $2500 to $5000 to do them.He does not owe enough.

  10. I would not worry I have a half dozen rejects every year that I can not reach clients.I send them a letter to contact me keep the letter in the file.Sometimes they show up the next year but most of the time they never come back.I have been doing this for 10 years never had a problem with IRS.I am also an EA.It is not our job to chase these clients down.We are a store front operation in a low income area.
