Have any of you received your printed 1040 Express Answers for 2012? I am thinking they are late because of all the last minute changes, but I am getting concerned. Thanks for your help.

Marilyn, where did you order the label program? I am using the one in Word, but maybe there is an easier way. Thanks,

Taxpayer is a totally disbled attorney. She is getting long-term disability from employer and Social Security disability. Will
never be able to return to work. In 2012 she was forgiven a federal student loan of $78000 because of her disability.
Is this forgiven debt taxable in that she is disabled?

Yes, I downloaded it this morning with no problem. Yesterday I received an email from ATX saying it was available. I just clicked on the download
button in the email and went right through with no problem When you open the progam the first time, you have to enter the code numbers.

I have an OH reject. Explanation is "IRS submission ID referenced in the state submission manifest must be present in the e-file database." Please, does anyone know what this means or where I can find it?

I always hold OH until the Federal is ACK'd.Today I have a Federal return ACK'd and I create the OH but it just stays held
and will not transmit. Any help will be appreciated. I just called support but there is a 40--45 minute wait.

I buy a lot of supplies from Ten-Enz. They are ATX compatible, good quality and not a bad price. If you order early, you get a discount
and you get a discount for ordering on-line.

Thanks to all who commented. The test is probably not that hard. It is just the idea of all the study and having to travel for the test. I do 325 returns, so
I guess I will just go ahead and do the test. If I were ten years younger, I would go for the EA, but I probably won't work after about five more years
Happy New Year,

Liberty Tax Service has a classified ad in my local newspaper "tax preparers wanted--no experienc needed."
How are they going to get PTIN numbers or will they fall between the cracks? I have been doing tax returns
for 41 years and have to go through all this testing and stuff. always have plenty of continuing ed, but the
test is worrying me. I am 78 years old and probably not a good test taker. Maybe it is time to retire.

Forgiven student loan debt
in General Chat
Posted
Client is an attorney. She became permently disabled two years ago and still had $87000 in student loans from law school. The debt was forgiven last summer due to her disability. On Saturday she received a 1099 C. Is there any way around
having to pay the tax on this forgiven debt? She is not insolvent. What do you all think?
