  1. Little old lady brings papers to office. Long time clients. Retired. Under filing threshold.

    No return required.

    What do I owe you ?

    No charge.

    No really, what do I owe you ?

    Really, no charge.

    I insist.

    OK, a cherry pie.

    Two hours later ( in a driving rain storm ) knock, knock, knock. A cherry pie at the door.

    I guess I will have to look at their income every year from now on.

  2. I would add that it is important to inform clients that what you are telling them is your understanding of the law TODAY. There are numerous lawsuits challenging various parts of ACA. We have had several changes made by the President. There will be campaign contributors looking for a return on their investment. I don't know that I can tell my clients what the law will be a year from now with any degree of certainty.

  3. I filed 354 1040's for tax year 2012. I usually have about 3-4% that haven't filed by April 15th. But some reappear by October 15. And some appear the next Oct 15th. I have one client that usually waits until he can bring in 2 or 3 years at one time. I suppose I should give him a quantity discount.

  4. >>> the contract was awarded to the highest bidder (higher than 'X');

    Don't give Republicans any ideas. Some of them want to abolish the IRS. They may let private business collect taxes just like how the Romans did! According to them Govt. can't do anything right!

    So you would say our current tax code is "doing it right"?

  5. Any proof that only Democrat's kids are parked in their parent's basement?

    None whatsoever. And I know lots of Demo's kids who are ambitious and successful. I believe Pencil's point was not allowing a deduction for grown kids was "anti family". Once their education is complete it's time to jerk the ti. er bottle out of their mouth. I know 40 year olds still living with mom and dad. Sad.

  6. I believe a few posters on this board did receive a refund from ATX after certain deductions for e-filing. Did you escalate this matter up the chain of command?

    I made several calls, but no help. Like many of us I have other business to tend to. I have been cheated before and it will probably happen again. But not by CCH. Fool me once.......

  7. My experience is the ATX return policy is "denied". I asked for a refund for tax year 2012 on Feb 8th. And my account rep was no help. I e-filed no tax returns with MAX. (downloaded Pro Series Feb. 1st) They had my money, and they decided to keep it.
