Try the practioner help line. Some years ago I had a problem with a spouse with 2 last names and they told me that only the first 4 letters of the last name are used anyway. Tried sending it that way and it worked. Been doing it that way ever since. Hope this helps.

Seeing as most of my clients use Sch.A because of NY's high taxes this will really delay my season as well as upset a lot of clients looking for their refund. They won't be happy waiting for late Feb. to file.

Thanks for your suggestions. I deleted the preparer in the preparer manager and reentered all the info and I was able to e-file. thanks again, Rich.

Hi all. I'm trying to create an e-file and the I keep getting an error message stating that the preparer EIN must be 9 digits. I've never had an EIN before. Is this something new or am I just missing something? Thanks for any help. Rich :scratch_head:

I need help with a NY State Income Tax Return - Client lived in Manhattan then moved to Brooklyn, NY - Question: Is Brooklyn considered "New York City" I need to know this for the city income tax calculation.
THANK YOU TO ANYONE WHO RESPONDS
Brooklyn is part of NYC. If he moved from Manhattan to Brooklyn he would be considered a NYC resident for the whole year. Hope this helps. Rich.

I've been using ATX since 99 and overall have been very satisfied. Four or Five years ago the season always started off slowly with lots of problems and calls to support. The last 2 or 3 years the seasons have started quite smoothly and have stayed that way. I average about 1 or 2 calls to support each year and when I finally get a knowledgeable tech the problem is solved right away. This board absolutely helps keep the tech support calls down. I don't know what I would do if ATX went away. Using a non-direct entry system is very unappetizing to say the least. Thanks to all you ATXers for your support of your fellow members year round. Rich.

I had this problem and was told,I believe by IRS to only use the first 4 letters of the long last name since that is all SSA uses. I tried it and it worked. Hope this helps.

Mike, I could be mistaken but I remember having to calculate everything manually.
