  1. I have completed 95 returns while coping with all the problems. This morning after installing the 12.8 update yesterday I cannot

even get into a return. Popup says program has encountered a problem and has to close. Goodbye. Actually they are not courteous enough to say goodbye. Sure hope something good happens soon as I am unable to do anything.

  2. On the ATX Support home page, left column, under manage my account, is the heading Contact Information (or something like that.) Click on that, and it will take you to a page that lists the information for you, including a line for your password with the password shown as *****. On the right side of that line is the word modify. Click that and it will take you to the screen to change your password.

I can't even get to the ATX Support home page. When I click support a screen comes up asking for client ID,user name, secret question. When I enter these things it takes me in a circle and asks for the same things again and finally says my account has been locked. I have neither the time or the patience for this nonsence and have been unable to get to knowledgebase for quite some time. Several people have addressed this problem and seem to be able to get what they want. If anyone has a simple answer I would like to hear it.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Do you mean that the 1099-A doesn't mean that he has to include the difference as income for this year? That he will more than likely receive a 1099-C at a later date. I don't get many of this sort of thing so I am unsure of how to proceed. Thanks to all of you who have answered. JOG

  4. I think most banks have not forgiven any debt yet. I think form 982 will be very useful next year.

This young man was given a 1099-A with a date of lender's acquisition of 10/17/07. Balance of principal outstanding $39,000, with a fair market value of property of $21,000. At first I thought he would have income of $18,000 but what instructions the form 982 has made me think this difference could be forgiven. Anyone have thoughts on this?

  5. I have a client who lost his home because he couldn't pay for it. I'm thinking this debt relief act would help him. The instructions for this form is not too clear. Should I file the return without showing the income from the foreclosure and attach the form 982. Not sure how this would work. Any help will be appreciated.

  6. A taxpayer has a son who turned 20 in 2007. He cannot be a qualifying child because of his age. He can be a qualifying relative because he meet all of the

requirments. How do you report him on the tax return?

  7. I've had a problem of not being able to transmit my E-Files for 5 days. SEVERAL tech support e-mails went unanswered, 3 faxes to tech support were unanswered as well as desperate emails to customer service. When I tried to use the phone, I would be on hold (bad music) for 30 minutes or so then be disconnected. I FINALLY got a customer service person yesterday who assured me the problem was no credit card on file, and assured me I would be able to transmit within the hour. 10 Hours later, I STILL couldn't transmit. So another call to tech support and was told it was a top priority software problem for this morning. Why just this morning???? I've been PLEADING for help for 5 days!! After a few hours of that I can FINALLY transmit. God PLEASE don't let me have anymore problems this tax season. This is my 2nd long drawn out one, the last one had me in tears. I've probably spent 50+ hours dealing with this stupidity. Anyone else out there feel my pain?

I'm only on my second day but I am already feeling the pain. Don't appear that ATX was ready for the tax season.

  8. I encountered the same problem last night. Got the message "not authorized to transmit" on my efile attempt. I spent 1 & 1/2 hours on phone with tech support and problem is still not solved. They said they would call me this AM but have not heard from them yet. Still not able to efile. Good luck with your problem.

  9. I filled out the fee collect form and transmitted it with all the forms in the return, however, a get a message that my customer number is not authorized to transmit returns so please contact technical support.

I finally got through to technical support and they told me that the reason I got the message was because I have to update my credit card by going to My ATX and adding it to my personal record.

I was told it would take about 30 minutes to an hour to update and I could transmit the return again after creating the e-file.

I am still having the same problem and getting the same message that I am not authorized to transmit the return. Has anyone else had this problem? How do I retify this problem. Please respond.

    Thanks,

    jacksorh :)
