I have used the Comparison for as long as they have had it, and with EVERY return.  Not only can I see if I am missin something, it showes the EXAC line by line of any increases or decreases.  Amazing how much more the client understands!!!

I can only speak for NYS - -and YES, a NYS pension is totally excluded from NYS taxable income.

I always charged $10 per child return , and adjusted it if there were more than a couple of W-2's, additional state or self employment. It was worth the minimal amount just to make sure the kid di not do it by themselves and accidentially claim themselves. We all know how much fun that is!!!!

A surprising number of clients bring "samples" in - - -everything from crafts, baked goods, sponge samples-my all time favotire - - a taxadermist who gave my husband & son 3 skinned, frozen and not clean skulls! Yeah, one of them was a bison - -took about $150 on the gass grill to
clean" them - - - -

I agree! Just man up, accept responsibility, apologize, and remind them we are people who have to do a whole year's work in 4 months!!!!!

I have found that a number of caculations need to have the return closed and reopened inorder to get the correct information to flow.

When all else fails - -reboot!!!!!!

NYS "regulation" is an additional $100 Registration with minimal continuing education requirements. They do however, verify that you have no outstanding NYS tax liability.

I suspect that is the reason that the number of preparer filed tax returns have declined in certain areas, and "self-prepared" returns are increasing.

Does anyone know a site that will explain WHY cruise ship employees owe taxes in NYS when they are in florida 270 + days a year? OK - - did NOT change drivers licnese, car registration or voting registration. All credit cards, cell bills etc list NYS address. Also, stays with friends or on the ships when docked in florida, so had no rent in Fl either. Only comes home to NYS for about a month a year.

Received a letter for 2008 lst year - -now gets one for 2009 from NYS - -never filed a state return.

Just a heads up1

I was preparing a return, and as is my practice, I was toggling between the schedule and 1040 to make sure the information was flowing, when I noticed a $3000 estimated payment/or rollover. There was NO REFUND in 2012, and that $3000 estimated payment was in July, 2012. I have NO IDEA how it showed up again in 2013. Please make sure you double check this!

I also have Will Van Kleef - - - the poor boy had been trying to talk to me all summer. I was a Beta tester - -and asked for some time to think about renewing. The problem was - -I then had to send him an email regarding the 2013 program. His replay was within hours. Had a heart to heart talk, and I believe ATX & I are back on "speaking" terms - - we will see what the new year brings.

ATX appears to have written me off as a user even though I was a Beta tester. No one calls, no emails with special offers. It appears everyone else including previous but not current users are getting special offers.

I am just sick over the decision of what software to go with. 15 year ATX user (since Parson's was purchased and eliminated by Intuit).

Many other programs (OLT, Tax Act, etc.) are missing forms or states that we prepare.

ProSeries requires a bunch of extra add-ons to give me a usable program (most notably the import module).

Don't like the layout of any other program.

RBowersea - -you are not alone - -I am AMAZED at the lack of dialogue between sales & beta testers - -we heard from them at the beginning, and I did get a call during the first week - -then - - - -

(listen to the sounds of crickets) - - -nothing - - - and yet I see others being reached out to - - -hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I had a standing policy of NO tax returns Fri night from 3 pm on. And, since I work from home, it was a treat to take the kids out to Micky D's and a walk through a mall - -just to get away from the business. Sundays were also a day where I would work in the office until noon - - the rest of the day was family time. I have done this for the past 32 years!!!

I tell this "type" of person ( usually hairdressers) "Don't tell me anything I have to testify in court about" - -usually shuts them up.

Only in America do we celebrate a day for a man who didn't ask for directions!!!
