  1. I believe that was me Doug. I have a six year old Brother Inkjet All-In-One printer, copier, fax & scanner. I does work but doesnt have near the features, is much slowers and not suitable for scanning a high volume of documents. Thats why I bought the Cannon last year.

    Will the Cannon be functional?

I will find out, I do not know how hard it is to add the additional working scanners. But I think we need to if possible.

  2. Doug,

I thought this might be a good thread for those of us unable to get our scanners to work with the TRX 2012 File Cabinet feature. That way Doug can have them all one place (assuming there are others) without having to look in various threads.

Im using a Cannon "CanoScan LiDE 110" scanner (TWAIN compliant, purchased in 2012) and havent been able to get it to scan using the "File Cabinet" feature. When I attempt to scan I get the message "error in scanning doc". I dont think the software is even recognizing the scanner.

Details can be found here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/scanners/photo_scanners/canoscan_lide110#Specifications

I really like this scanner. Affordable, functional and runs off the USB port with no additional power needed. If anyone is interested here is the Amazon link.

I had problem with the Cannon and actually this exact model. The Brother works great. Actually someone else on here had this issue and tried their alternative Brother and it worked great. Doug

  3. Are the state return modules coming next week as well? I think CT is suppose to release their final version on the 15th.

Does the normal update at the start of the program update the state modules or do we have to manually update from some place in the software?

The update does not auto install the states, the reason is you may be in CT and never do a CA return so you do not want CA on your machine. We are still working with the DOR's at the states but you can download the states. You go to your defaul return, goto select state, click on more states and your browser will open with at list of states, click on your desired state and it will take you through the update process just like the federal.

  4. Doug,

When I spoke with Tech Support when I first received the software I inquired about forms for Pennsylvania's MANY local taxing authoritites and was told they would be included with the Pennsylvania return. I just downloaded the Pa forms and I dont see it/them.

Pennsylvania is one of a few states that has a local earned income tax and each district (depending on your residence) has its own tax rate. They accept Pa forms to be submitted with the local return.

ATX had a seperate form for each local taxing authority.

TaxWorks only had a generic local form (they accept a generic local form with supporting Pa forms attached - no efiling)

You can view the form in TaxWorks if you go to the State below the EF CTR button in the top left select from the State drop down menu then "PAG". The first entry is PA and the second is PAG which is the local earned income tax form.

Items such as Interest, Dividends, Net Capital Gains (Not Net Capital Losses), Rental Income (Not rental losses) are taxable to PA locals. The return does not combine Taxpayer and Spouse income (cant file joint) but does list both a column for the Taxpayer and a column for the Spouse on the same form.

This form is very important to me and impacts every return that I prepare.

I hope it is going to be included (with functionality from the Pa State) as if I were required to manually prepare this for every client (and child 18+ with earned income or interest or dividends) it would be very cumbersome

Also, each PA State require's a "school code" to be enetered based on the residence and the drop down list is in numerical order which makes it very hard to find. It would be much easier if it were able to be sorted in alphabetically.

    Thanks

    John

    John,

On the local I will have to check and see when that will be available. Keep in mind the PA state is not complete yet as we are still updating all states and we get update requirements from the state DOR's. I will check on making that alha instead of numeric.

  5. Doug,

Do you have an option of importing all the stock transaction from excell in 8949 form?. I have few clients who do quite a lot of stock trading (500+) , and I hate to enter manually.

    Thanks

Yes we are working on getting that now and should have it out in a couple weeks.

  6. They may have discovered a vulnerability. But I think it's just that lots of companies have found a cheap e-mail list from IRS. I've gotten a whole lot more advertisements in my e-mail in the last year or so.

Yes the PTIN list has you email address on it and when you renew your PTIN you are agreeing to have IRS vendors email you, you cannot even opt out.. That is why you are gettting so many emails. I will warn you there are a lot of resellers out there that want you to think they are big, but they are not. I have right now over 370 employees in total and 200 in support alone which equates to 30 customers per support rep. so just beware.

  7. Nine days later I have still heard nothing from them. I've concluded that Doug's tactic is to simply stonewall untl the (likely former) client gives up. They have apparently written me off as a lost cause and therefore see no reason to communicate with me or even consider a refund.

I'm going to give the software to a CPA friend who has decided just in the last day or two that he's going to do a handful of returns this year. What do you suppose the chances are that TRX will contest me giving him the software? It would be a huge mistake on their part--they've lost me but there is a chance they might be able to cajole my buddy into stickinig with them after tax season.

    Jerry,

I am glad to do this for you, once you have done this please have the CPA to call my office 855-880-1040 extn 3558 and talk to Mrs. Hencey and she can change the CID & PID to the CPA's credentials. I still wish you would stay with us too.

  9. Doug,

I remember you saying you guys were working on the download speed. I must say, good job! The 06 downloaded for me within 2 minutes. That verses 7 hours for the first time is incredible. Thanks for working on this

Thanks, Terry we opened up from a 20 meg download to 300 meg.

  11. We will be having additional releases between now and Monday, This release does have the Client Organizer in it along with several underlying resolved issues. The Peek mode has been corrected for easy viewing and easy getting to page 2 on forms. The CTC has been fixed. We will be releasing tomorrow late all the 2012 forms and printing function. Doug

  12. TRX1 if you can't add a detail statement to each user input field at this late stage of the game, then having a detail statement on each form would be better than nothing. I can see 3 years down the road if U had to do a 1040X we would be scratching our head trying to figure out what the figure was made up of. At least if each form had a detail notes you can refer to that. I am trying to go paper less as much as I can. Those filing cabinets are becoming expensive!

You know with our e-cabinet you can scan any documents from clients and put them in a folder for later reference and be completely paperless. That is what we are working towards.Doug

  13. I believe I raised this topic in an earlier post but it wasnt addressed. The example I used was Sch A Property Taxes. I like to be able to drill down to tha data behind the number and this was always done with detail statements. It would be a nightmare to have to keep manual records on fields that are comprised of several data inputs.

    Hopefully this is being addressed.

    Hey John,

on our SchA you can add statements on property tax there is a title that say other taxes add statement. You can use this filed for whatever you want. On the Sch C & E give me more detail, but what if at the top of each form I added a additional statement button the you could use for what ever you wanted to on that form?

    Doug

  14. Form 8949 does not allow V for Various or I for inherited on version 4.0.0.05 that we have. Trx1 does the update fix this problem otherise 8949 is unusable in its current format.

Yes it will fix it. Right now the field is only numeric but in the update it will be corrected. Doug
  15. Maybe I just can't find the instructions, but how do you enter "VARIOUS" or "INHERITED" as the purchase date for a capital gains transaction?

    Don,

Have you tried just typing a V for various and a I for Inherited? That is how I set it up. Let me know.

    Doug

  16. I agree, 1040X may become our best friend this tax season! I already told my staff that if a client demands that we file their tax return before we know that it will be good to go because FAFSA and some colleges are forcing parents to submit a 2012 tax return for financial aid, we are going to get them to sign a disclosure and pay us $50 to amend it when IRS rejects it or they get a CP2000. That should cover my part time overhead. I am not trying to make a killing of these people, I understand their circumstances but i can't tie up my staff doing avoidable 1040X.

I am really looking forward to text to the cell phone. I have not done that so far in my practice (my reminders are by voice mail or e-mail). I personally prefer a call or voice mail because I am so clumsy texting on a cell phone. I like my 102 keyboard!

There you go again showing that age!!!. You need to learn to cheat get a Droid phone like my wife and i did so you can say your text instead of typing it, we are both masters at texting and no one knows how we do it.

  17. The plan is to have the 1040 Individual 2012 forms tomorrow or Friday and then the Corps. (1120 etc.) by Tuesday. The IRS may say they are ready but if you saw the list of forms they are telling us we cannot e-file yet you would understand that they are really not ready.

I may not have the corps complete by Tuesday but it will be functional and I will update within the next few days after the release. We are still waiting on several of the staes to finalize their form and calcs but I may goahead and start releasing the States and do the same by updating them as the State releases everything for us.

I think each of you should look at our 1040X, I think I have it were it is a winner on ease of use but that is my oppinion and I feel this is going to be a very highly used form this year with the IRS delays as God only knows what they are going to delay next. Have you guys thought about what you are going to do if a client wants to go ahead and file without certain things and amend later, what are you going to tell the client? I think you should also get familar with our appointment scheduler so you can schedule clients to return for the 1040X. Get Cell numbers this year so you can send text out to clients reminding them to come back in.

    Doug
