Now, children, just be nice and don't try to take too much credit about being elders when the real ones are looking over your shoulder like Granny Coral, the real elder at 78.

    Yes Mom.

  2. I haven't seen a Kilroy was here drawing in ages. I wonder if the younger generation is familiar with them? PapaJoe, you aren't showing your age are you? Or maybe I just don't get around as much as I used to.

  3. I went to the Postal Service web site and I believe they will win the prize for the most confusing web site. When I finally found a page for postal rates, it was for the old rates. I know that I am getting old and senile, but I don't think I am getting as bad as their web site made me feel. I did call the post office and asked if they have a brochure with the new rates, and they said they would send me one. I wonder why they didn't send everyone a brochure when they first determined what the rates were going to be.

  4. I did a quick google search and found the following on the Dept of Labor website. Note that it says that the federal goverment does not require the employer to pay the employees wages during that time, some state laws do.

    "Jury Duty

DOL Web Pages on This Topic

The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) does not require payment for time not worked, including jury duty. This type of benefit is generally a matter of agreement between an employer and an employee (or the employee's representative). The Bureau of Labor Statistics' (BLS) Employee Benefits Survey indicates that 87 percent of employers offer paid leave for jury duty service.

While federal law does not, some state laws require employers to pay employees who are asked to serve jury duty.

Report showing participation in selected employee benefit programs, full-time employees, medium and large private establishments.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I agree that we all fee betrayed by ATX. But after many years working for HRB -- I learned one

thing. You cannot trust what a corporation promises. "Sorry, that wasn't written in stone you know", and "trust me, this new pay plan is an enhanced compensation plan". there way of saying -- here comes another pay cut!

No matter what company you buy your software from, you can't trust them that everything will stay the way you like it.

I'm not a pessimist.... just an Optimist with experience.

So I will use ATX for as long as it's price and features suit me and my needs. Trust them?

Of course not, not any more than I will any other corporation.

Long ago someone told me that people are under the impression that GM is in the business of making Cars... Not true! Gm is in the business of making money... just like any other corporation.

They are all going to get a new CEO etc. with a stupid idea, trying to make a name for themselves.

So whatever software you use, watch your back, and keep your options open.

Just my thoughts as an Optimist with experience.

Taxtrio, I believe you are exactly right.

  6. The statute of limitations begins when the return is filed which means that they CAN go back to day one. I was told by an agent several years ago that that they USUALLY only go back a few years. I don't remember how many years he said but it seems that it was 5 or 6. (What he actually said was that they don't usually go back before 19??, whatever year that was at that time). I don't know how to find out without calling the IRS and asking.

  7. I had a brainstorm! We should all petition the ATX Communities database from ATX in order to continue this valuable service with all of it's history.

I'm certain that they will initially resist this request, however a class action from all of us threatening not to renew for 2007 may have some direct impact on their final decision.

What does the community think of this pursuit?

Even if every member on this board protested, it would be a very small percentage of their total subscribers and I doubt if they would pay any attention. When they decided to end the original board, they probably considered that a large percentage of those who use the board would not renew. You can bet they are reading this board and know that many on here have already said they are not going to renew.

I'm all for doing whatever we can to get the database back, but I don't know what that could be. I don't suppose there could be any kind of legal action we could take since ATX advertised the board as one of the benefits of their software program? Just wondering.

  8. He was to present an invoice for his work so that it could be added to the brochure for the tours.

Could he not deduct his actual expenses as advertising expense since he was listed in the brochures as one of the expert craftsmen working on the house? He did receive some benefit from the work he performed.

P.S. Assuming of course that he hasn't already deducted the expenses elsewhere.

  10. How do you reply to a topic on this new board? I tried to reply to one and all I did was quote the original response. I couldn't find a way to respond. What am I doing wrong? I really do like this board, just need to learn how to use it. I really appreciate the effort that was made in setting up this board. I really felt lost when the other board was shut down. I haven't responded very often in the past, but I read the postings often. I'll try to do better in the future.

  11. When I am on this website, I have to scroll thru the page down to see the current reply. Is thair any way I can see the latest reply on top and older on the bottom. I try to look but can not figure it out.

    Thanks,

    B Jani
