Client has ONE w2. I repeat one W2.

We do the return for 100.

We tell him it is complete and ready to pick up.......AND then...............he says well I have all this to write off.

WTH???? really where from. (I was thinking maybe travel stuff).....but I was WRONG,

Apparently I can write off a Grand Piano, his gas and milage, advertsiing the company pays for, travel (that he does not do, that his co-works do that are not claiming it). I was waiting for him to put his wife and dog and the kitchen sink on their the list.

this might be my first year but com' on man I am not that big of an idiot.... or am I? lol

Thanks. I was able to do get through with ATX. I called the human resources and they swapped me over.

Baiscally my issue was a software issue they said. but I am not able to Efile. They are now transferring me over to a level three person on getting files transfered over to Taxwise.

Sorry guys I couldn't handle ATX any longer. way to many issues and having to call every day almost, was just making me mad.

I really loved the way it was set up. I felt I was able to learn a lot more. and that is great for someone like me who is a rookie.

So I called them and they swaped us over to TaxWise for free.

BUT..... now I need to at least get into the forms that I made on ATX. I have 100+ in there.

Everytime I go to the program it opens fine. but when I go to open a return it closses and says to report the error. Does anyone know how to fix this issue, or does anyone know how I can just transfer those clients to TaxWise?

I think the problem is they have cancelled me or something. cause now when I call and put my client ID in, they say I am not allowed to use that line.

I hate you ATX.....sorry had to just say that.

Why can't he take the Block course? One of the people that work with me took the course this summer with no intention of ever being employed by Block.

My wife was able to take block classes and she never had entions with being an employee.

Learning as assistant to your wife is great; nothing like hands on under supervision to get you going. You won't be able to take the Block course, but most tax societies, like NATP, NAEA have classes and training available. You don't have to be an EA to go to NAEA meetings/classes, and I've found them, at least our local ones, to be excellent.

There are a lot of online beginning and intermediate 1040 and biz return courses that will get you familiar with basic return prep. Maybe someone else here has experience with them, but I know CCH & RIA offer them. You can get package deals with RIA that allows unlimited courses plus discounts on Gear Up seminars.

If I am unable to do block classes. would you say NATP or NAEA is better, worse or the same?

My firend got their return done for 200 at HR block, why is mine with an 1120S more?

I know HR Block has gotten fussy about who can take their courses, but they are outstanding if they are available to you.

Your current skills should be an great fit with your wife's skills. If she's preparing taxes and has the accounting background to understand balance sheets and therefore entity returns; and you're doing the QuickBooks bookkeeping and OIC and maybe even some of the data entry for her, the two of you should be a productive and efficient pair as is.

As you see what returns your business prepares and what your weaknesses are, you'll be able to pick courses for the off season. I'd strongly suggest studying for and passing the EA exam (for both of you, if you wife hasn't done that yet) to broaden your ability to offer representation for your clients.

So long story short, but I just got into taxes about three months ago. I had to find a desk job due to a broke my sternum in the construction field.

anyhow my wife is great at it. She took HR block classes and years of schooling for Accountant. but we were wondering about what is out there for me.

Anyone here know of classes or what to take for someone who is a begginer?

- I handle OIC and know the procedures (433-A,B,F; 633, letter, etc etc.)

- I know 1040 for doing someones basic w2, 1099's, 1098's, efiling, etc etc (I think very basic stuff).

- I know some of 1120's and 1065. but not that much. in all honesty I know the purpose of a K1 and getting them started in ATX with their name and SS# etc.

- Quicbook Financials

- S-tax

ATX has stated on the blog and ATX TV that the 4562 will not be available until Friday (for ATX, not the IRS). ATX is releasing program update 12.8 in the morning and that has something to do with the 4562. Then in the afternoon, after we have had time to grab the 12.8 update, they will release a Form 4562 update and after that we will be able to efile 4562's.

Corporate efiling, if there are no forbidden forms, is available now, I believe.

side note: I wonder why the 4562 is working fine for me without the 12.8 update. Cause I know I am only on 12.7

I have form 4562.

but I do not have GA 4562 yet.

Have you tried deleting the Assets folder and then updating all your forms again? That has been a pretty good fix for me this year. Don't know why but it seems that forms are getting corrupted and then ATX won't open or crashes.

sadly I had to go this route because it actually took itself off the server last week. so I had to reinstall it. (gladly I back my files up daily....so I did not lose anything)

I wasn't being snippy, it's just how it is. And what irks me is that many of the calls are unnecessary, if the users just looked on the boards, read the damn manual, or searched the knowledge base. Then people with pressing issues like yours could get through.

If you can't find a fix here or on the official ATX board, one hint I saw was to press zero once you call in and you'll go straight to tech support without having to get into the queue. Maybe that will work.

yeah I find out a lot of stuff from here or just simply researching it. like fe collectr and etc.

Last year I could go to the ATX support center and download all the federal forms and their version numbers. I did this so that I could check my forms to see if they had the correct version number. I could also look at the status of the form and see if the form was approved.

Where is this feature this year? I can't find it. The ATX support center has a list of latest updates for federal forms but that is just a short list.

You can right click on your mouse on the form & it will show the version number at the bottom.

not a expert but can you not write off his commute to the job site?

I used to work in construction. trucks are rented mostly. because they have so many.

it easier for them to have a truck for 5 years and then let it go to a closed auction.

I would say do it as they have it as rent.

but do trust me on the rent. I promise you they do rent a ton of things. they actually have to rent out a percentage of their business for street scape and pipeline work.

ATX is getting a bazillion calls. That's why it takes so long.

I am going to scream the next time a client rings my office doorbell two and three times in 30 seconds. Apparently they think that I should hurdle my desk and run to the door that quickly. I'm used to little kids doing that, but not adults.

this is very sad how their customer support is. I promise you I will not be signing up with them again next year and will be letting everyone around me to use them lol.

my sales rep went on lunch break last week and I guess went MIA. ATX has not been staying open and crashes frequently and locks my computer up. (anyone else having problems like this?). and then when I call the 1-800-638-8291 I am put on hold forever.

- last week I was on hold from 9-6 and they failed to fix the issue.

- today I am trying again and have been on hold since lunch break and it is now 4:00

anyone else getting ticked like I am?

I print only forms stuff I want there to be.

worksheets and all that other stuff I say no to.

then for client instructions and efile stuff. I got to custom and take water marks off, and then only select e-file (EXample8879 ga 8453) and client instructions

when I go to download the update it says

error 1310

X:atx2012atx2012.exe

the X is the drive we use.

I have the option to abort, ignore, or close.

-retry just pops up over and over.

- close does away with it

- ignore comes up with error 1304

and it wonts me to verify I have acces to the directory

then when it goes bye bye error 1603 comes up

and says for me consult with windows installer.

but then I try to just say forget the update and go to work. but sadly it is gone now. (before it would open but then just shut down randomly and start updating on its own.)

When is it saying that? During download or installation? Did you install the original program in the default directory or some other directory?

I went to the manual download. and half way into it, it said error (basically said I was not allowed). Then it closed, I tried to reopen it, and it then said (File path error).

it is like it almost took itself off.

Yes, I would love to know as well. Although it is too late, as I just faxed my order form to Drake. No idea how hard it will be, but when I looked at ATX Blog and they said 12.7 is tomorrow and addresses printing only, and the next update will be 2/15/13, that was my breaking point.

mine was the today. when the guy Rob at 1218 said he was going to grab something to eat and would call me back in an hour. and now it has been two days,

and now my program started not being able to work, then I tried to manually update (someone said that might help), but now my file path cannot be found.

grrrr

ohhhh and I have also been on hold with 770-875-0231 since 9 this morning and it is now 4:18

NOOOOO now it is saying it cannot find the file path. grrrr and CCH still has me on hold.

any other suggestions?
