  1. I was in Stapleslink in a previous life, and I saved hundreds and hundreds of dollars. I was so sad when I lost it when that life ended. I am so grateful to have access to it again through ATX. I have already saved over $100 in just the past few weeks. It is a great benefit, and it costs us absolutely nothing to have it.

I signed up for Staples link. Have not used it. I found out that Office Depot was better at price and especially service.

  2. After the thyroid operation, I was feeling just great. About 5 days after coming home I thought I twisted my knee. A knee that was replaced in 2007. No such luck. It was cancer from the thyroid eating at my bones and plastic implant. Off to Sloan Kettering in NYC for operation and a new knee. Now I am using a walker and hope to be off the walker in a couple of weeks. The doctor had to cut from under the knee to 3/4 way up the thigh. Oh well, I get up each morning and feel a little pain and say thank you God for the pain, the alternate is not an option.

Good News, my daughter gave birth to a little girl on Monday, both daughter and granddaughter are doing fine. That makes 2 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. The tie will be broken the end of July with my son's wife, who is having a girl.

Now if only I can get the info from the clients to finish their returns. Somethings just don't change.

    Have a great summer.

I wish you thebest as you recuperate. May the future days be the best yet.

  3. THANK you, SF Bob. I confess that I needed this reminder; it's been two whole years since I last paid proper homage to Eric's invaluable endeavor.

    Contritely, TaxCPANY

I appreciated this post and pressed that button at the top left DONATIONS and proceeded to make a donation to this Board. We all should make a gift to Eric toward the cost of running this Board. Come on posters and show your appreciation! Chief

  4. On another posting a number of you posted about long term marriages. Today Helen and I are celebrating our 60th anniversary. The years for us have been blessed. I think it would be interesting to report what has been the secret of such union. How have they lasted thru time?

The one secret for us has been to respect each other and not try to remake the other. We accepted each other for what we were. We still do.

What is your secret for a happy and blessed union that has survived the test of time.

  5. Client brought me his stuff and in it I found a 1099R for 2010. It is for a court case ABC v XYZ. He said he did not get the money until 2010. Do I use it for 2010 or 2009 assuming the date is wrong, although it is a preprinted 1099R? I would go with 2010 but would like other opinions.

    Thanks.

Make no assumptions. Save it for the 2010 return.

  6. Don,

According to TRX they are now providing TaxWorks, not TaxWise Software beginning in year 2009. I am not interested in TaxWise at all but am very interested in TaxWorks.

    Thanks

    Mike Dubin CPA

I am using TRX TaxWise this year, but understand it will no longer be available thru TRX.

  7. I received my TRX TW software this afternoon.

I have now installed the program on my new Hybrid

computer with Vista Home premiun with no problems and now ready for the new season. At least for the software part.

  8. At the risk of sounding mean...

Tax software DOES NOT equal Tax Knowledge.

This is why my clients come to me instead of trying to do it themselves.

I use this saying all the time when people refer to TaxCut or TurboTax. It is especially potent when they have received a notice after using the DIY tax programs.

A number of years ago the IRS Tax Forums had a theme TAX SOFTWARE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR TAX KNOWLEDGE. i used that on my prinfed materials a long time. It has a powerful message.
