Finally decided on Proseries...all about reliability and learning curve .
Used it for two extensions and found it much better than Taxwise.
Can't afford another year like 2012
-
I use a third party backup(Carbonite). Is that enough? or should I still back up to disk? Oh my,the problems never end..I should have retired this year, for sure. Never had such a messy year as this one.
-
Just a reminder that Taxwise rolls over the Amended AGI and not the original AGI for 2011.
I had a Return rejected and it took a while to find the reason.
-
I did receive mine last week from Mainstreet Tax Solutions

Thanks, I am still trying to find my way around on the fly.
Is there a list of elections anywhere in the program?
I was looking for a carryback waiver for NOL.
-
Support repaired the database and back in business! I am very pleased with the response of Support and I thank them.
-
I am not able to Efile this morning. I get an error message and the program shuts down.
Has anyone else experienced this strange happening?
Thanks for any suggestions.
-
I went to Taxwise through Main st. also. It's not perfect but it works and the price was right for my small practice.
-
I am no computer expert, but those are some of the problems I had when I switched my browser. I never went back to Explorer and finally it seemed like the Tax program adapted to the new browser. Sounds strange, but then this whole year has been strange and messy.
-
I've had that problem over the last few days. Today, tech support said that TaxWise only likes Microsoft Explorer. Apprently you have to make that your default browser. I changed the default. Not sure if that will make the difference. Not real happy about that since I like Firefox.
Kea, I switched to Google Chrome and had a problem at first. It is now working fine. Foxfire should work because that is the one Tech Support recommended . Good luck

There is a Diagnostics Button on the toolbar in an open return. We just have to get used to finding everything.
-
I know there are a number of knowledgable Taxwise users to help us navigate a new software so late in our tax season. I have mastered the simple returns,so far,but I know there will be questions as I tackle the complicated ones. Thanks in advance
-
Mostly OK,but it has some strange quirks that take some getting used to.
Efiling is definitely a problem but hope to work it out today.
-
Mainstreet is extremely busy, thanks to us! I spent over two hours with support today, trying to Efile.
-
Kea,don't use the "update" button on tool bar.....Use the client log- in
I spent many hours today with Tech support
Efiling is very messy ,in my opinion, but I am hopeful ....
-
I had trouble finding it too.. Scroll to the bottom of page on asset worksheet . I think its the last group of boxes on the page, if I remember correctly.
-
I'm sure I'll spend a lot of time this summer evaluating alternatives. Price will still be my primary goal.
My practice is small and I hope smaller next year. I'd like to retire when I can get health insurance without it being a business policy (next year!!). But I also know I have several clients who won't let me retire.
I'm now watching training videos and waiting for a tech to call about some of the strange error messages I'm getting in MainStreet TaxWise. I think I am finally at a point where I can prepare the returns for the 2 clients coming in this afternoon. Hopefully without looking too lost!
Kea,I am in the same situation..small practice and trying to learn Taxwise. The support people were very helpful and solved the mystery of those Error messages . Efiling has been a problem..still can not print an ACK.
-
I am fairly happy withTaxwise, especially with support. My biggest complaint is the Efiling system.I still have not figured out how to print an ACK. It is very cumbersome compared to other systems.
They really saved the day and I had no Efin problems. I did buy from Mainstreet Tax Solutions and I guess I'll worry about next year NEXT year.

You are the only one left carrying the flag.......looks like just about everyone else has gone elsewhere. We might have to ask KC to change the heading of this forum from TRX to maybe Taxwise or Taxslayer etc.

The one with EIC rejected with the following:
F1040-013 If Form 1040, Line 64a 'EICEligibilityLiteralCd' has the value 'NO', then Line 64a 'EarnedIncomeCreditAmt' must be equal to zero or not be present. XPath : /efile:Return/efile:ReturnData/efile:IRS1040/efile:EarnedIncomeCreditAmt DataValue : 2093
Anyone have any advise?
I also got this rejection code...Have you found a solution?
-
For the size of my practice, the TRX pricing fits my budget & I recognize the limitations of that. I have only done some minor playing around in the 2012 software because I am waiting for the majority of the major bugs (listed by others) to be ironed out. Then I'll do more major testing. I am very hopeful that everything will run smoothly in the next week or so. However, if the software is not usable at that time, I may have to "jump ship." I truly dread the idea of having to find a new software at the last minute right before clients start coming in in late January. I really hope that won't be the case!
Let me know if you find one that works and is affordable...I have worked three days on two returns and one has been rejected.
I have a small practice but at this rate, I may have to give up.
-
I haven't been able to get that far...apparently one cannot delete or change proforma'd dependents without an override, which blocks the efile. I have a client waiting...supposedly last night's update fixed this...except that it didn't. It's a simple return...what gives?
Same problem, but my efile was rejected. How confusing!
Back to support,

Just wanted to know if anyone had at least been sucessful in completing and e-filing a simple return.
Yes,I finally did, after the last update.
Efiled two fairly simple ones. Many other issues also were resolved
Great year

Taxwise was effortless and dependable this year. Support from MAINSTREET was also excellent.
Hoping for a repeat for next year.
