  1. Last year the clergy worhsheets had to be mailed with the 8453. This year the worksheet data is included in the efile so they don't get mailed. In their infinite wisdom, IRS shut off worksheet 3 for 2106 adjustments until March 30. So if you're using the third, you have to snail mail until April. Or wait.

  2. What am I missing? I have the return and the KY EF info added, but no option to create a KY e-file.

Which KY form are you using. If it's nonresident, the state KY doesn't accept those in an efile.

  3. That's an IRS requirement for efile, not an instruction for completing a return. Here's the text of the error the IRS would return if the software didn't prevent efiling.

ERC 0426 Form 1040 – Other Payments must equal the total of the following fields:Tax Paid by Regulated Investment Company from Form 2439, Total Income Tax Credit Amount from Form 4136, Current Year Refundable Credit from Form 8801, plus Health Coverage Tax Credit from Form 8885.

Just because it's correct doesn't always mean it can be efiled.

  4. The new tab for Other Property is used to input both page 1 AND page 2 donations. The program will sort them and put them on the correct page. Also note that there's a new tab for vehicle donations. The IRS added to their e-file specs and is collecting more information for vehicles. They require a pseudo-1098C for vehicles and the new worksheet satisfies that requirement for the efiled portion. Also see Form 8453. IRS wants that 1098C record in the efile plus the snail mailed copy.

    Q. Would I be considered a first time homebuyer if I owned a principle residence outside of the United States within the previous three years?

    A. Yes. A taxpayer who owned a principal residence outside of the United States within the last three years is not disqualified from taking the credit for a purchase within the United States.

  6. How can I efile an Arizona extension? The instructions say to check the AZ website but not much info on the site. The program doesn't give me an option to select the 204 to when clicking on efile. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

    You need a 204E.

  7. My only issure with your responses is that I wanted to completely e-file the return and not have to mail in anything... so I seems that each transaction might need to be entered... thaks

The way to make the e-file accept is to have just one entry each for short term and long term on the Detail and use the totals from the broker's statement/ Date purchased can be various but date sold has to be a real date. I usually pick one out of the air. Then I enter "See Form 8453 Attachment" as the description and check the box on the 8453. No problems.

  8. For some reason, I don't believe you can e-file when the death is in the current year.; only if it occurred in the tax year you are preparing. ie: 2008.....deaths in the tax year do require a 1310.

So long as the death has been recorded in the IRS records, it'll fly. Except I don't think the IRS allows a 1310 for e-file with a court-appointed representative.

  9. This was on the state website http://www.ct.gov/drs/cwp/view.asp?A=1512&Q=293638

    (2) Upon written request for waiver by any return preparer described in subparagraph (B) of subdivision (2) of subsection (B) of this section and preparing Connecticut tax returns for a particular tax on behalf of clients, the Department shall grant the return preparer a 12-month waiver of the requirements of this section if the return preparer is able to establish, to the satisfaction of the Department, no feasible means of filing the Connecticut tax returns electronically without undue hardship. If the Department grants the waiver to the return preparer, the clients of the return preparer may file signed paper Connecticut tax returns for the 12-month period and shall not be required to make a written request for waiver under subdivision (1) of this subsection. If a client of a return preparer instructs the return preparer not to file the client’s Connecticut tax return electronically, the return preparer shall not be required to file such return electronically but shall be required to advise the client that the client is required to make a written request for waiver under subdivision (1) of this subsection.

  10. The message isn't stupid if the state being transmitted requires the info for the efile to be accepted. And even though it may have been okay last year, the state could have added the validation this year.

  11. Thanks, but I would still like to know for sure if, when efiled whether with a refund or amount due, it shows on the efiled forms tab as an efiled form. Guess I'll just have to bite the bullet and try it!

At the bottom of the Payment and Refund page of the Ohio Efile Info there's a section showing the refund and amount owed and the payment/refund options. It transmits as part of the OH return and can't be sent by itself.
