  1. Question:

    1. How do you get the Rounting No. and Account No. to transfer to Form 1040 (page 2)?

    2. Is there anyway to do it without going the Efile route?

    3. What are the steps?

If you're not using e-file, go to the Filer Info page and enter the numbers there.

    Follow-up question:

    1. Is there a refund amount? You can't use direct debit unless you're e-filing.

  2. They make everything else available. Why can't they offer a link to the database? Not access to the database, but just a link to check against all EFIN's used. I think it would be easy, but that's just me.

Not to be argumentative, but like what? I've just accepted the fact that the software can't check things like the SSA masterfile to validate SSN to names and dates of death. Or compare the customer's W-2 to the one the IRS receives from an employer because those aren't available.

If there are resources that might make the software better, please share. I'll write up and email the suggestion.

  3. I don't see why they can't just link to the IRS database which has all the EFIN's, so that way when the EFIN is entered in, it will automatically be checked with the IRS system and shown as correct or incorrect. At that point you could just e-file, or change accordingly and then send. Would be a great way to cut down on the people calling in for this error and would relieve alot of headaches most of you experience. It really doesn't seem it would take all that much effort to create the code for that. You guys should put that in as a suggestion and maybe they'll implement it for next year.

That would be great but does the IRS make that database accessible? Can't use what you don't have.

  4. Everything else is within the guidelines. It was when I did the efile creation that ATX wouldn't let me do the eic with stepchild. Thanks for the confirmation

ATX didn't allow stepchild because it isn't in the list of allowable dependent relationships for electronic filing. Those are

    Values: "CHILD",

    "FOSTERCHILD",

    "GRANDCHILD",

    "GRANDPARENT", "PARENT",

    "BROTHER", "SISTER",

    "AUNT", "UNCLE",

    "NEPHEW", "NIECE",

    "NONE", "SON",

    "DAUGHTER", "OTHER"

The taxpayer might be picky about the "step" portion but the IRS isn't. "Child" works just fine.

  5. It can be e-filed but since there's tax owed, the 1310 isn't needed. On the Efile Info form there's a checkbox below the PIN method boxes, upper left corner, for "Personal Representative". Check the Personal Rep box then put in the name of the rep in the area labelled Section C. The Personal Rep will also enter the PIN information for the decedent, in effect "signing" the electronic return.

  6. Hey Catherine,

I'd like to know more about your "serious [MA] e-filing problems;" for that's just what's 'killing' me, right now.

This Wednesday, I got a reject notice from ATX for a New York resident (with an SK-1 for MA) -- while his fed & NY e-files sailed through. On Thursday, ATX's "Loranda" promised to keep on top of my problem, and to followup call me Friday morning. Didn't happen; so, Friday noon I reached "Brandy," who merely re-logged my problem and recited the company line that there was no way for her to "expedite" the problem, but she'd simply send another email to "the programmers" -- despite my urgent news that I'm leaving the country for two weeks this Monday.

Almost needless to say, I've heard squat from ATX/CCH since. So, two whole weeks from now, I assume I'll have to reinvigorate my "case." My client & I are lucky that he owes nothing; but, if you could shed any light on what you've undergone with ATX in that jurisdiction, I'd be most grateful.

    Very truly yours, TaxCPANY.

Instead of just posting a complaint, how about decribing the problem in a little more detail. Someone else may have had the same issue. And we know there are still ATX employees who contribute, and a few who lurk, who might be able to expedite it.

  7. Just got off the phone with Bandy at ATX/CCH. My old Client accounting program expired and they will not generate product ID to view Historical data.

The problem is CCH only bought ATX and not Client Accounting Program. Even though I converted most clients Payroll historical data is not coverted.

Never heard such a ridiculous Statment from a company the size of CCH.

Is it possible that once ATX Tax program is discuntinued we will not be able to get the data..?

    Sorry !! Just frustrated..

Are you talking about ATX Client Write-Up? I don't remember ATX selling anything called Client Accounting Program.

  8. 350,000 glitches. Chances are this has already been posted:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The Internal Revenue Service says up to 350,000 households didn't get their $300 per child refund that should have been part of their economic stimulus rebate checks.

The tax agency says human error and computer glitches were responsible for the problem affecting a tiny percentage of the 130 million taxpayers expected to benefit from the paybacks.

The agency plans to mail out checks in July to those who missed out on the child refund.

  9. I noticed on the "official" atx board that you can go to www.taxwise.com and log on using you atx logons. I did this and found my account info, my credit card info, and all of my e-files with client names and ssn. PRIVACY LAWS??? I am pissed at this. Sorry about my words. Why should taxwise have this info? I am not dealing with them. Where else is this info? I am not going to write any more in this message because I am tooooo mad and angry.

Where have you been for the last 2 years?

There's one company named CCH. It sells three software packages - prosystems fx, ATX, and Taxwise. When you log into the ATX or Taxwise site, it's all the same - CCH. There isn't a company named ATX or Taxwise.

    Microsoft sells Word

    CCH sells ATX

ATX is the stuff in your computer, CCH is the company that gets your check.

  10. Booger:

This issue for me is not that I want to switch from ATX, it's that I am still not sure ATX will exist and CCH is doing things to confirm that, by not being willing to guarantee the ATX product line. \

Good chance you may end up with Taxwise!

If they weren't going to support the ATX software, they wouldn't have sales people pushing it. Taxwise is so vastly different from ATX, they couldn't substitute one for the other. All that's been acknowledged from the poster's conversation with sales is that they are selling the ATX product and have a 30-day guarantee. If they send you anything other than ATX, you'd be able to get your money back. If you order steak and the waitress brings you smelly fish, you get to send it back. Right?

  11. "Now for an interesting thought. Since they fired everyone from Maine and all original ATX staff, how do we know that they are even capable of programing the new software? "

Just so no one gets the wrong idea....NO ONE who works specifically on the ATX program has been let go. Period. The folks in customer support, shipping, and sales were great people and employees, but they had very, very little to do with the "core business". The heart of the software is still beating strongly despite rumors to the conntrary.

  12. No. You cannot e-file with a current year death. You will have to paper file the return.

Yes you can. The IRS will accept a return with a 2008 DoD. But David S was right. If it's efiled and the SSA data hasn't gotten to the IRS files, the return will reject.

  13. Instructions say to put tax exempt in col c if the entity is exempt w/o an id number, but atx gives a red error, anyone have any ideas to get this filed?

It'll have to be mailed. IRS won't accept the efile without the iD number.

  14. Curiosity got the better of me so I tried it. It worked that same way last year as this except it was a worksheet in the 1040 form instead or the Ed Expense workbook. The software worked but go ahead and blame the goof on it.

  15. Yes, I saw that on the IRS site. My question was more along the lines that I seem to remember in the past the 9465 was sent with an 8453 (could not use 8879), but with the new 8453 this year, it was not listed as one of the required attachments.

I guess the additional signature requirement on the 9465 is merely for paper filers then...?

The signature lines on it don't need to be used when it's efiled with a regular return, only when mailed in by itself.
