  1. Right now we are thinking of chucking our businesses and going to the nuthouse.

Yeah, call me tomorrow, I'll have lots of time to discuss 2011. Hahahaha.

Well I did respond to the email.....but I am sure my sarcasm went right over her head!

  2. Did anyone else receive this??? I think the timing stinks.

"From your new ATX/TaxWise Account Manager

Ask me how to expand your business next year?

Have you thought about going paperless?

  3. Does anyone here know where to find the client letters on the web site and download just those? Please help my computer crashed and had to re install and everything. Now since I had to install from Web I can't find the client letters to install.

The client letters are included with the forms.

  4. My recent issue of the Kiplinger Tax Letter stated that the instructions had been changed this year on the 1040 for the Health Insurance deduction for self-employeds...just haven't had time to look at it, but for 2010 IRS has decided for some reason we can deduction the Medicare B premiums as self-employed health insurance payments.

It is on page 29 of the 1040 instructions on IRS website.

  5. I finally was able to download the last 1099 for my personal tax return--I never do anyone else's return until I have re-awakened that part of my brain making mistakes on my own. If I am going to take the Medicare Part B premiums as a deduction against my SE tax, I still don't know where I am supposed to show it. If you add it to Line 29, it carries to the SE but it also deducts from the total income which it isn't supposed to do as I understand it. I checked Pub 535 but it is, and will continue to be until sometime in March, the 2009 version which, of course, says you may not use those premiums. It isn't going to make a lot of difference in my personal taxes and, as I have said before, I don't think I have another client who would have this situation. BUT..it bugs the heck out of me when we are told one thing and then are left hanging to try to figure out how to take advantage of what we have been told. And I admit I am getting to be crotchety! On that happy note I will say thank you once again. MM

You need to put the amount on line 10c of "Line 1(Sch A(1040))-Medical and Dental Expenses"

  6. I wasn't going to, but I can't resist giving my take on this whole mess!

    1. Where in the reply that was given to Mike from TRX did it state this person by name? I got the impression from what was stated that he believed it was from recently let go employees, yet this man is stating he left the company in 2008?

    2. If it was out of sincerity that he posted the info, why did he conveniently bring his own business into the discussion?

We all know he had other motives. At least last year when TRX started on this forum they didn't do any bashing they simply offerred a deal that was great. I do believe they had some over zealous sales people and of course we all know what resulted because of that.

    Just had to chime in!

    Deb!

And may I add #3.........if you want to sound legitimate and professional......check your grammar and spelling....geez, dude, did you graduate high school???

  7. Gail,

If you had been with TRX last year, but renewed this coming year with ATX they (who knows why?) assigned you a new customer ID number. I believe based on my experience that this new number generated a list of those who signed up next year to receive a copy of this years program.

The FedEx package I received last week was the 2009 disk but with a new customer ID number.

    Hope this helps,

    Deb!

    Thanks Deb!!

  8. Hang in there.

They may be under a "confidentiality" agreement until it is settled. What's the rush, anyways? It's not like we need our 2009 software TODAY. We'll know in plenty of time to buy directly from CCH if need be, and with TRX's written guarantee (which CCH, by the way, will NOT give), any money you spent will be refunded if they can't provide you with ATX.

Chill! Or are you _trying_ to stir people up? I do note that all these frantic-sounding notes are from new community members.

If you're legit -- go back and re-read (or read 1st time) some of the older TRX-related posts, take a breath, and calm down.

If you're just making trouble -- get outta here; we don't need you, we don't want you, and it won't work.

Thanks Catherine.......some of these posts are getting a little carried away.

  9. I hope you do get a call. I am still waiting on an email reply to the one I sent yesterday morning to Braeden.

    "Hello,

I've been following the threads on the ATXCommunity forum with great interest and some reservations. As a 10 or 11 year user of ATX, I am a pretty loyal user. I also am a sole proprietor with limited resources so saving, in my case, $400 is a serious matter. I do have the following questions I have yet to see addressed, although could have just missed them:

Since TRX will not provide an archival copy of the program, is it possible for me to burn a cd for personal use or archives or to load onto another computer that does not have internet access?

I currently use the 3 computer no extra cost feature on a peer to peer network. Is that the same with TRX?

I use the Uniform paper and envelopes for W-2's and 1099's. Does TRX sell those?

Thanks for all the information you've provided. I still have a bit of the loyalty thing going on but am moved by the fact that, probably as far as CCH is concerned, I would still be a customer."

I only hope that he is so swamped with email and phone calls that a reply will come in due time. Samingeorgia raised some interesting considerations that gave me additional pause. What about timely updates? What is the proverbial plug is pulled or something is not exactly the same? Probably is I used the other features they are including with MAX, it would seem a really, really good deal. Still, for me $400 is not chump change.

Just an FYI.....Braeden works the 12-9 shift and they are on Central Time

  10. I would like to echo everyone else's sentiments and look forward to being more active on this board next year since I will be using ATX software again. It is an unequaled wealth of information for someone like myself that works alone.

    Best to all,

    Gail

  11. Gail, you stated unlimited fed e-file what about state e-file, either piggyback or alone? What about 1099's?

I know last year I looked at some other software packages that I liked the price but it did not have what I need. I only use a few 1099's, 1065's and 1041's so adding the PRS to Atx Office was okay for price. I also need the multiple license.

I just included exactly what was on the notice I received. I was told on the phone that the difference between TRX and ATX from CCH is that TRX e-filing is unlimited whereas CCH limits the 1040 Office to 100 e-files before charging additional. I can't imagine that doesn't include state filing but I don't know about 1099's as that may be an "add-on". When I was speaking to the rep I was telling her about the hoops I have had to jump through with Taxwise to file a return with 9 non-resident states and that I didn't have that problem last year with ATX and she didn't disagree.

  12. According to the renewal letter I received today from TRX they are offering the following:

    TRX-Pro ATX.............................................................. TRX-Pro TW ATX

    $299.00 + S&H .......................................................... $699.00 + S&H

    All States .................................................................. Complete Office

    Business Module......................................................... All States

Unlimited Fed e-file .................................................... Business Module

    ................................................................................ Business E-File

    ................................................................................ Unlimited Fed e-file

    ................................................................................ Trial Balance

    ................................................................................ Document Manager

I was also told today on the phone that they are trying to work out a deal with Drake as well but that isn't definite. They are also offering the same Taxwise packages as TY2008.

    Gail

  13. I have one client that is ALWAYS last with some sob story about not having time to get her info together. Already had my annual conversation with her (over an hour on the phone) and I still have no info. It also takes her months to pay me. I have decided that I will not be taking her call when it comes in around April 13. Just not worth the aggravation.

  14. I, too, left ATX for the same reasons as Kea and went to TRX. Intellitax07 wasn't too bad, and after Taxwise this year, I thought I was going to have to suck it up and just go back to ATX, even with the price, but it looks like I can stay stay with TRX and get the good stuff!

Totally agree...just hope CCH doesn't decide to play games......that is the only thing that makes me hesitate.

  15. Haven't heard the offer but if I can get MAX for $699, I'm in. There's almost no tech support I can't get from here!

Interestingly, I had to call TRX support yesterday. As I was chatting with the tech (and complaining about Taxwise) he told me that they would be offering ATX for TY2009.......1040 Office for $299. He of course wanted me to sign up then and there. "Do you guys work on commission?......uh, maybe".

    Gail

  16. Help!! Client has one resident and 9 non-resident returns. Only 2 of the non-resident states do not allow e-file. Taxwise apparently only allows 5 non-resident e-files. So far, I prepared the Fed, resident state and 5 non-resident states. Went to e-file and program attached one of the non-resident states to the fed and then blocked resident state from e-file. There has to be some work around. I am thinking.........remove all non-res and e-file fed and resident.........then add 5 non-resident as "state-only".........once those are done........remove and add other 2 non-res e-files and 2 paper?????

    Any ideas???

    Thanks,

    Gail

  17. What is wrong with it?

What I don't like is the manager it should allow you to hide the completed returns.

I just think it should pick up the more obvious errors that I stupidly missed but were automatically picked up by IRS resulting in rejected e-file. Or maybe it is just a "miss" in the software during the original input....i.e. disallowed student interest due to AGI......I know I should have caught it, but I am still adjusting to the software.

  18. Eeks...I just got off a phone call with Support...it doesn't auto recalculate Boxes 3 & 5 when you enter figures in Box 12. I'm turning off the calculation on Box 3 and Box 5 since 9 times out of 10 it will be wrong for me...

I'm having the same issue and I am NOT liking it....among a few other issues.
