  1. Happy tax season! Married clients are current Maryland residents. They are purchasing home in Florida and intend to live there 183+ days, as well as change bank accounts, voter registration, etc. They will retain their Maryland home as a vacation home. Once Florida domicile is established, they will no longer file Maryland tax returns. (part-year return exception) Has anyone seen Maryland revenue pursue or challenge these situations? If so, what have been the issues and outcome? Thanks in advance! Colleen Weber
  2. I agree - I don't want efiles created that aren't ready to be efiled just to have the letter read correctly. In previous years, this feature of the letter was customizable. It seems that now I spend more time on the non-tax input for the system/letters/efile than on the tax data input for the return itself. Of course, these would be great issues to bring to support and request enhancements, but who has time to sit on hold and explain it during the tax season?
  3. There were 4 windows updates after 13.4.3, so I started by uninstalling the newest and it worked. The title of the update is: Update for Windows 8.1 for x64 based Systems (KB2919442). The update is supposed to reduce unexpected windows system crashes, but appeared instead to interfere with ATX rollover. Maybe for the rest of tax season, I'll have to manually review windows updates and select only those that appear critical to avoid interference with ATX.
  4. For many of the Minnesota returns, ATX will add these forms automatically: MN Sch M1ED MN Sch M1CD MN Sch M1NC The problem is that M1ED and M1CD have income limits (<$37,500, and <$38,750). The error check identifies this limit and recommends discard. Why does ATX add them in the first place when income is already over the limit at time of auto-add? I end up discarding them manually. (which usually crashes the software upon the 2nd discard function) MN Sch M1NC isn't used in all cases -- like 6251 - so wouldn't the option of adding it be our choice? Anyone else frustrated with this? Found a work-around? It's a waste of time when they shouldn't be added in the first place.
  5. Thanks Margaret, I checked and my 2012 is up to date. I uninstalled a Windows security update that had installed after 13.4.3 update and then restarted computer (again) and VOILA! now I can rollover. It seems the program is very unstable this year.
  6. Since the upgrade to 13.4 I cannot complete rollover. Error message: Rollover did not complete successfully. {name of return} could not be rolled due to communication error. I've restarted several times. Only doing 1 return rollover at a time. Suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance. Colleen
  7. The program crashes (ATX has stopped working) when discarding a form. Not always when I discard the 1st form, but when I discard the 2nd form. I save between discards to save data, but crashes cost valuable time to restart and check data. Any suggestions? Colleen
  8. Hi Everyone! I am trying to use ATX on multiple computers (desktop and laptop). I would like to be able to enter basic data on the laptop and then transfer file to desktop for review, printing, and save final version. Can someone who has done this help with these questions? 1) How to keep both computers updated. What are implications if they are not at the same version? 2) How to transfer file between computers - export/import or backup/restore? 3) Once transferred back to final computer will forms update and preparer information be entered? 4) I would like the initial rollover to occur on computer #1, than transfer to #2 for data entry. When I try this, computer #2 says "cannot find 2006 master files" and cannot open rolled over file. Will I need to install 2006 program or just transfer 2006 client files? Where would I put them since there is no 2006 file directory? 5) Will the 2006 ATX install on a system running Vista? I've tried to work through these issues with ATX technical support, but they are unable to help. Thanks so much for your help everyone! I wish you the best tax season! :-) Colleen
