cathyan Posted January 28, 2013 Report Share Posted January 28, 2013 Divorced mom has 2 kids. One gets SSI and his money is spent on medical needs for him, so she can't claim him as a dependent. She makes enough to support herself and other son, so she can claim him. However, when I input dependent info, and mark 1st child as NOT DEPENDENT, but he does qualify her for EIC, his name still shows up on page 1 of 1040. It does not count his exemption. If I don't put his info in the dependents area, I would have to override the EIC page. I don't like doing that. Nor do I like his name being on page 1.
