General troubleshooting for ATX 2012

In your ATX 2012 program, you notice some of the following issues:

  • The program opens slowly
  • You are unable to print or returns print slowly
  • You receive errors when rolling over returns

These problems can be caused when your anti-virus program is blocking ATX 2012 executable files. You can solve many of them simply by allowing these files access through your anti-virus program. If your software does not allow file exclusions, you can usually exclude the ATX2012 program folder.

Note: We do not recommend disabling or uninstalling your anti-virus program.

Refer to your anti-virus program's help files for the steps on excluding files/folders from being scanned.

Files/folders to exclude in Windows 7:

  • C:ProgramDataCCH Small Firm Services
  • C:Users{user name}AppDataLocalCCH_Small_Firm_Services
  • C:Program Files (x86)CCH Small Firm Services
  • C:Program Files (x86)ATX20XX (where 20XX is the year)
  • C:ProgramDataGibraltar

Files/folders to exclude in Windows XP

  • C:Program FilesCCH Small Firm Services
  • C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataCCH Small Firm Services
  • C:Documents and SettingsAll UsersApplication DataGibraltar
  • C:Program FilesATX20XX (where 20XX is the year)
  • C:Documents and Settings{user name}Application DataCCH_Small_Firm_Services

If your software is networked, consider setting up anti-virus software on the server to handle the network drives, and excluding network drives from the workstation's anti-virus and firewall protections. Concurrent scanning by multiple workstations can lead to significant performance issues and potentially program errors.

If this does not address problems with rolling over returns, see Answer ID: 13919 for further suggestions

  • 2 weeks later...

I am on an XP standalone. Tuesday evening I updated to 12.11, even though I was running pretty smoothly on 12.10.

After the update, it took forever to open the program the first time. After that everything was 40 to 60 % slower,

except the forms loading in the Print Manager which was more twice as slow (Over 2 minutes).

I hadn't updated to the suggested file exclusions since I was running OK speedwise.

So I updated to the suggested file exclusions in both Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Firewall

and my slowness mostly went away. I'm back to the speed I had under 12.10.
