Yes, often exercises and aids can really make a difference.  Sometimes, though, that doesn't work well enough.  The exercises shown are very common for runners and in yin yoga so I've done those for years.  My L4-L5 issue in 1989 did not respond well at all with the first line methods.  It was so bad I had to take the CPA exam for 2 1/2 days (remember when?) on my knees after getting permission to bring a pillow to use.  That was May.  In July I had the surgery and was running again in about 8 weeks.  I recall waking from the anesthesia and realizing IT WAS GONE!  That gawd awful pain down the right leg was gone at last.  I'm hoping for similar results this time but may have to temper my expectations.  It's been 26 years so my mileage may vary 🙂
