DIRECT DEPOSIT FROM IRS

TAXMAN

Recommended Posts

TP and girlfriend live together. Girlfriend has bank account tp does not. Can we do direct deposit into girlfriends account even tho boyfriends name is not on the account? They have been living together for 5 years now. All is fine in the neighborhood as they pool their $ to pay bills from her account. Any body know or had experience with banks or IRS on this issue? Many thanks.

And we are off on a good roll already. Just abount everybody that was supposed to get the $250/500 deal don't even recall ever seeing it. And they walk among'st us.

It all depends on the bank. If he is a signer on the account, the bank will probably allow it. If not, some banks will, others will not. The IRS itself does not seem to care, but some banks will allow you to open an account with no checks, just to get a refund, so you might call around and find out if any in your town do that. If so, he could get one of those accounts to get the refund in. Or, of course, just get a paper check, which only adds one week to the time. If you are not sure the bank will allow it, that's the better way, because if the IRS sends it to the bank and the bank rejects it, it will add three to four weeks to the time he gets the paper check.

Some banks will bounce the refund if the last name doesn't match. Unfortunately, not all banks will. So if you accidentally put the wrong account on there and the bank takes it you could have a very peeved taxpayer. :(

And if you guess/hope that they will take it even though the name doesn't match, and the bank bounces it, you're now looking at it taking even longer than a paper filed return with check from IRS to get that refund.

Seems that there are a variety of "non-bank" banks out there that will take direct deposits. Kind of like a secured visa card that allows direct deposit, that sort of thing. May be worth it for the taxpayer to look into getting something like that.
