  1. I have the same exact problem with an S-Corp first filed in 2011. E-filed the first year no problem. Last year got the entity type error so I paper filed the extension. I have the 2553 from the attorney and everything seems ok. Paper filed the return last year and the client didn't have any correspondence with the IRS, but when I tried to e-file the extension just last week got the same error again.

  2. "They have added e-file information into the return manager this year. I see it at the bottom of my return manager. When I click on a return, the e-file status appears in the bottom window."

I am not seeing that. Guess it's operator error here.

You may have this option turned off. Under preferences, return manager, there's a check box "show e-file status information for selected return"

  3. New client referred to me paid HRB $243 last year for a return with income less than the filing requirement (She is 82), only had to file to receive refund from withholding. They filed a schedule A and told her she saved a bunch of money. Would have taken me 15 minutes for the return had I not had to enter her new information.

  4. I too have been a user since the Saber days. Except for the annoying 'server' error, ATX is working better than last year. Printing is much faster. e-fling has been going smoothly. I sure hope it stays that way, the more complicated returns wont be in until March. (At Least!)

  5. Thanks for the suggestion Gail, but the client is about a one hour round trip on a good day. That isn't a possibility, and I don't want to be tied to them daily or weekly to write their checks. Monthly is enough for me.

I used Quicken a long time ago for some of my personal finances. Would there be any way for me to get those transactions into Quickbooks without redoing his work. I guess I'll try to talk him into the online banking. At least that may be an intermediate solution for him.

Yes, you can convert Quicken to QB. One of my corporate clients insists on using Quicken, fairly simple company. I can convert over to QB. I have another QB file used for the General Ledger.

  6. Perhaps this post which I copied from the ATX Board will help someone.

    • Re: Can't connect to server error - An attempt was made to start the server process......
I had the same problem. spent lot of time with customer support. they uninstalled & reinstalled ATX 2013. Took long time to complete Program update on reinstall. couldn't complete Forms update, taking for ever. Escalated to Tech Support. i was told that they can't help bcoz my processor speed was below the minimum system requirement and that there is NO option but for me to get a new computer which has atleast the recommended system requirements.

      Then I did 2 things.

      1. Followed Server Start/Restart process per Answer ID 14613 for Stand-alone setup.

      2. (a) Right click on ATX2013 icon. go to property. go to Target. copy the path.

(b ) Went to my Anti-Virus program's anti-virus settings. select 'Exclusions' (from scanning). Added the 'Target' path by pasting it. saved the change.

© closed the ATX2013 program restarted it.

I did this just 2 days ago. so far it seems to be working. If I get the 'Server" message, I again follow the server 'Start/Restart' process and the program will open.

Hope, this helps you all out there wondering what to do

You might try adding the 'server' program too to the list of exclusions. Sfs.ServerHost.exe

I really cant be sure how much this helps because the error can be random, but since adding both of these to the excluded files, I haven't had the error as frequently.

  7. I get that error at random times. Very annoying. I still haven't figured out a pattern to it. Sometimes goes hours fine, and then it starts. Weird. Clicking retry doesn't always work, I have to manually restart the service which always works. Seems worse after I've rolled over returns.

  9. I prefer Brother Laser printers for the ability and ease and cost savings of refilling the toner cartridges. Refill for 20% or less of the cost of new. Each toner cart can be reused at least 2 times, with some as much as 4.

Jack, any particular Brother model you can recommend?
