For 2012, ATX split the 1099/W2/941 forms into a separate program. It should be on your install discs. The program still looks like ATX 2011.

I had similar request yesterday from a mortgage lender. I flatly refused.

How long does it take for you to click the icon to get ATX to open; for me it's less than 20 seconds.

Whcih seems very fast...and the reason i think for that is my solid state drive.

I don't have an SSD, but my Win XP computer loads ATX in about the same amount of time.

I'm almost out of chocolates, must be close to the end.

I could do that, but I have my preferences set to remove assets when disposed of and if I change it to personal use, I'm afraid next year my asset history will be gone.

I don't know how ATX handles an asset converted to personal. I'd duplicate a 2011 return, convert an asset and then rollover in 2012 and see if it's still there. (and hope 2013 works the same way)

On the dispositions tab in the Fixed Assets, have you tried selecting "convert to personal use"?

Do the numbers on the CA form CA match to the numbers on Sch E act worksheet?

On the CA 3801 there is a tab at the bottom for Sch E acts. Blue boxes for Passive and Non Passive differences between Fed and CA. That is where I fixed mine.

Yes, that's it. The diagnostic drove me crazy until I figured where it referred to.

I had a similar problem, but it referred to line 2(d). It was actually referring to line 2(d) on the Schedule E activity tab on the 3801.

I updated my XP machine from 12.10 to 12.13. So far so good, but I wasn't having any serious problems before.

I have. The first time I tried, it crashed the system, and the program closed. Reopened the program, and tried again, with success. Compared the import data with the actual k-1 and all info was exactly as it should be.

Be forewarned, the import process is VERY SLOW .

Thank you. I haven't yet upgraded from 12.10, but the K-1 import would help.

Has anyone tried using the K-1 import in 12.12 yet?

The IRS tool for checking this is for each spouse. I noticed the software printed 2 5405s. One joint with the $500, and then one for the spouse, but just a blank form. Is IRS adding another 250 for a spouse to the 500 on the joint 5405?

In this specific case, the client has a fed refund, but owes CA and opted for a paper check by mail. I cant get the state options to stick. Every time the fed and state letters are combined the instructions for state are for a paper filing. I dont have problems when both fed and state have refunds.

Same problem here.

I had one today where the client owed the state and the combined letter insisted the state was being mailed instead of just the voucher/payment. The state options were grayed out unless the program options were not for combined Fed and State.

I don't know if this will help, but it was posted this a.m. on the ATX board.

Not any of the 4 prior years, "any 4 prior tax years". Not very well worded, but that's taken from the 8863.

Just tried the same return and it's no longer crashing doing a check. 4562 must have been updated later today.

Same problem here too. Check the return and the program crashes.

I cannot select the preview mode; it is "greyed" (well, "pale blue"-d) out.

Any idea how to get THAT working? Also, the third set of data -- fields to add, etc., as shown in the "client comm. mgr." video, does not appear. Where is that?

Do you have a return open when you're trying to see the third (variable) pane?

I can attach the Federal cover sheet, the one from the KB, and attach it to the return. I had problems initially yesterday, with the boxes being greyed, but after closing and re-opening the client letter from the menu, it worked. Buggy like a lot of other things this year.

Using the Federal Cover sheet, I was finally able to create a State cover using the variables and re-save as State cover.

Are you in the 'Client Communication Manager'? You can import the template from there. In the right of the menu bar there are two small buttons to select edit or preview mode once you have opened a template.

This might help. I still cant find out how to do a State cover though.
