  1. Installed the SSD last night- not as simple as I had hoped as I needed 3 SATA drive connections to do most easily, only had two, but swapping a few cables around and adding a USB dvd drive I was lucky to have on hand, I was able to run the SSD clone software-which went flawlessly. After installation, ran a few tests- the computer boot time is dramatically faster, ATX and client loading time is much better, I would guess load time is 30-50 percent of previous times. One thing I did not expect- the machine is now amazingly quiet. Total installation about 1 hour 20 minutes, if I had to do it on a second machine I think it would only take about 30 minutes. All in all, for 80 bucks a satisfying experience so far, as, together with an earlier memory upgrade, the ATX program is at least usable, and crashes seem to be a thing of the past.
  2. Grand- I agree with you that the software is the problem- we all assumed that our hardware that has worked so well with ATX would be equally as effective this year (and that the program itself would be functional, which it obviously isn't) - that being said- working with the defective ATX software necessitates a hardware upgrade to make the software even marginally useful- and it all comes down to the original 3 choices presented in the 1st post do nothing, change, or upgrade- right or wrong I at least am trying the upgrade- I probably won't ever know if I made the right choice
  3. MAS- the drive comes with a conversion kit, cables and cloning software- if all works right, I just have to clone the disk (make sure the SSD drive you purchase is at least as big as the amount of space being used on the drive you are replacing) with included software (either by preinstalling the disk if you have enough hard drive connections, or in the alternative through a supplied USB cable) then either set the bios or swap disks. I'm relatively tech-savy and not adverse to trying this myself, at zero cost, but I understand this is not for everyone. I'll be the first to agree that its absurd that we need to do this in the first place, but if for less than 80 bucks I can dramatically improve the operation of the program, I'm in. I'll let you know how it works in the next day or two.
  4. Just bought a 120 gb SSD (SATA III, Kingston) at Staples-on sale for $89.99 plus they are having their annual 20% off everything you can fit in a bag. Link to printable coupon: (http://f.e.staples.com/i/25/2068345218/25305_ecobag_olc.pdf) Final cost - $72.00 plus tax Probably similar savings for 250GB drives, but 120 big enough for me. I'll install it in the next few days and let you know how it works to improve program speed/stability
  5. Frannie hope you have already solved your problem- I had/have same issue- posted on official atx community board-got this response: There are several posts about deleting your "Asset" folder when your return has form versions different than the current program version. Depending upon what platform you are using (XP, WIN7, Vista, etc.) you essentially follow the address string until you get to the "Asset" folder (which contains program forms, not any depreciable asset info), delete the folder, reboot your system, then update the program. Look for posts from Kimmie1201, MarilynB, ATXMichelle, or ATXKristin in the Workaround/Solutions thread And was able to find this post: http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14069/kw/asset%20folder%20delete Was able to open a return, although back to vey slow openings Good luck
