  1. Technical note: when responding to a 90-day letter (Notice of Deficiency) it is mandatory you send the response by certified mail since this falls under the rules of the U.S. Tax Court.
  2. ALWAYS send a copy by CERTIFIED MAIL. Lawyers will often send a document 3 or 4 different ways to be sure receipt can be proved in court.
  3. Your client's story strikes me as patently false. Unless she's your girlfriend, send her packing.
  4. ATX website says Windows 8 is not currently supported. Who was it that said we all need to bow to technological progress? It sure wasn't P.T. Barnum who said, "There's a sucker born every minute."
  5. The only legal way to correct a depreciation error is to file an amended return. You are not "changing an accounting(/depreciation) method; you are correcting a mistake. You may also want to request 100% abatement of any penalty, explaining the error was one of duplication and the client took all required steps to remedy that error.
