I have had a few clients receive that letter. Since they did not have their 2015 return they went to the IRS office with a copy of the 2016 return. I had not done the prior year return.

i would just paper file return with proof that the child lived with the aunt. I would not file identity theft if it is just a dependent being taken. I have this happen several times a year. It can take several months for refund. The other way is take child off e-file and amend.

I do not do any shoe box clients. If you can not produce a spread sheet  or at least a a sheet with totals they must go elsewhere.

I have more than 100 returns accepted as of this morning. A few people without children have Federal and MD refunds already.

The major problem here is that he is dealing with the Amish. They do not have drivers licenses, they can not register a car, they do not borrow money,and I think they do not have bank accounts.This is the way they do things they are not trying to underpay this person usually they pay very well.

With the Amish you have other problems. From what I know they do not pay FICA or Medicare and some times all the money earned is pooled. They do not pay each other salary.

I have sent copies of bank statements to prove direct debit.When you pay on line you receive a receipt with a tracing number. I have only had one direct debit problem when the client did not have the money in their account.

That is why I have my clients if they can pay money due by direct debit eliminates all letters. If they do not want to I say go online and pay the worst thing is to mail a check.

I would want to see bank records for the tax year to check deposits against income reported. Had a friend(not a client) who is involved with criminal over a problem that started the same way.I would demand proof of income and expenses or fire client.

Drake for the 2016 tax year you will need complex  passwords. It is part of the agreement the software providers made with IRS. it was one or the main topics at the update seminar.

I think the point of this post is not what we are going to charge but why CCH needs to nickle and dime us. We can charge what ever we want. They need the extra money because Taxwise lost the government contract and they want us to make up part of  the revenue.

I understand that people with a lot of K1 s may need extra time I have a few we file on time then amend usually in December or January when they have them all.

If this was life insurance money the only tax is on the money the annuity made. You are not taxed on removing your own money. Since it was only in 2 years how much could it have made. Look at the contract to make sure this was not 401k money.

I disagree I use PPL on a weekly basis and have found it to be of great use. They usually answer with in two minutes and try very hard to answer questions. I always have a signed 2848 on file or ready to fax.

Have use Portal Safe for years with TaxWise very few problems works well with 90% of clients. People who are federal workers and try to use work computers have problems. Also some large company computer networks also have problems.
