  1. "Thank you for your concerns. Be assured that we make every effort to respond to all customer requests promptly with the suggestion that you engage other levels of our bureacuracy. We have many levels to enable you to express your feelings. We are always aware of how important your feelings are. You have a right to express your feelings and we try extra hard to accomodate your feelings. We know how you feel - we've felt that way ourselves. Remember that we are all about feeling. We concentrate on feeling even more than caring. What does that mean, you ask? Well, we really don't care, but sometimes we feel bad about not caring."

    Thank you for the laugh!

  2. Thank you for letting us know that you are not happy with the separate payroll/max
programs. Making Payroll a stand-alone application is actually going to make it easier
for you for a number of reasons. Payroll and Income Taxes run on different filing
deadlines. By separating Payroll and ATX, this allows us to be more responsive in the
future to the demands and timing of the Payroll calendar, delivering form sets when they
make the most sense from a payroll perspective. Separating Payroll from ATX also makes it
easier for us to develop a more robust Payroll application now and in the years to come.
Again, if you are still not satisfied with the separate programs, you can send a request
to our developers by logging into the myatx support site, click on community board then
post a message under the enhancements thread.

If you need further assistance, please contact our customer support department at
    1-800-638-8291.

Thanks, ATX for letting me know that you are now running my practice, your changes are costing me a lot of wasted time, and time wasted is money lost. The software worked very well, for my practice. I have been a user since 1986. Your customer service response (see above) is based on a developers vision not your customers! We need one progarm, import of Quickbooks and Peachtree into 1040, 1065, 1120, and 1120s, Accuwage, spreadsheet and the ability to unlock forms. Your customer service should pass all request to the developers without the customer having to log in and complain again when an email has been sent to customer service.

  3. David,

I have had the same problem for two years. Tech support is looking into it and I have been informed by ATX twice in the last week that they are still looking into it. I cannot batch print a return with the 8948 but have found that I can print the return with the 8948 unselected then page print the 8948. Yes, it is a time consuming but it works. I am hoping for a fix this year.

  4. Form 8948 does not print correctly when printed with a return. This form has to be printed separately otherwise all forms and worksheets that follow it are printed with this super sized font. This was a problem last year that I complained about and was never fixed.

Form 706 line 9 and 11 does not calculate correctly and line 7 is incorrect.

I would appreciate an answer from tech support as I have updated my program.

These are ATX Form problems. I have sent to customer support At ATX waiting 24-48 hours for response.

    Any help appreciated

  5. I emailed ATX concerning this a couple of weeks ago and they indicated there was no date on when the Planner would be updated. Maybe, now that February 14th has come and gone, they will have time to devote to this.

Thanks, I posted same question on ATX website, no response.

  6. Anyone have any news when this will be released for paper printing? Shows that it's paper approved but still shows draft in updated program returns. I emailed ATX and the email response was that they would email me in 24-48 hours.

  7. Was any preparer in Colrado made aware of this by ATX?

    Attention Tax Professionals

The Colorado Department of Revenue wants to make tax professionals aware that some 2010 estimated income tax coupons that were printed using tax preparation software incorrectly printed tax year 2009 in the coupon scan line. This means the estimated payments for 2010 will be applied to the 2009 tax year. This could result in tax clients receiving the estimated payment back as a 2009 refund, or could result in a delay in 2009 refunds for these clients. The Colorado Department of Revenue will attempt to correct these payments manually in its tax system. However, this effort could impact the timeliness of some refunds and/or income tax account resolution.

The following companies should have contacted their software clients about this problem and issued a software patch to correct the problem for the remaining 2010 estimated tax coupons:

    ATX-CCH – 104EP coupons (individual income tax)

Prosystem-CCH – 105EP coupons (estate or trust income tax)

CS Professional – 105EP coupons (estate or trust income tax)

We urge tax professionals to be careful when preparing the estimated tax coupons to ensure the scan line includes the 2010 reference date. If you have already printed future payment coupons using this software, you should print corrected coupons for your clients after the software patch is installed.

The Colorado Department of Revenue will try to make the income tax account corrections as quickly as possible.

  8. As the fastest selling software of all time, Windows 7 is now estimated to have been installed in 15% of the world's computers. The burning question we receive is should I upgrade? Let's look at the short version of the answer.

    Windows XP Computers

Don't upgrade these. To upgrade to Windows 7 it requires a clean install-meaning it will reformat the hard drive removing all previously installed programs, data, drivers and links, thus rendering all of your software, hardware and network connections useless and requiring re-installation.

Additionally, to upgrade you will need to install more RAM and the speed of your processor may still not be sufficient.

    Windows VISTA computers.

Upgrade these miserable pieces of software slugs. A Vista upgrade does not require a clean install, so you should not lose previously installed programs, drivers and settings, and your system already has enough power to run Windows 7. You will be pleasantly surprised by the speed and stability of Windows 7 as compared to the Vista slug.

    New Computers

These should be purchased with Windows 7 installed. It is inevitable you will need to change as Windows XP is left behind, and you may as well bite the bullet now. Your other computers will still be compatable with the data from Windows 7 machines, and your hardware and network will still work.

Which Version of Windows 7 should I use?

There are 3 versions available: Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate. Home Premium is fine, but most practicing accountants will probably want to upgrade to the Professional version, simply because it includes a Windows XP mode to allow it to work with most older software. The Ultimate version includes Microsoft's encryption program, BitLocker, but most people will not need the extra cost and features of Ultimate. We do recommend using the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Professional just because it unlocks the full capabilities of the computer. You may not need those capabilities now, but you may want them next year.

    What about hardware?

We have found that our older printers and scanners will not work with any version of Windows 7 and never will. Just about everything we have bought in the last 2 years seems ok, but our older Fujitsu scanners don't work. Microsoft has a compatability center at microsoft.com/windows/campatability/windows-7/en-us that allows you to check for compatable software and hardware.

This is information from Taxspeaker.com, that might help.

  9. Mike, I have been waiting on the 1116, too. KC suggested (on a previous thread) filling in the form on irs.gov with the numbers from our "draft" form and just printing that and attaching to return. I did that today for a client who keeps calling me, "What's taking so long?" Of course, client is paper filing.

It's a pain, and the ink is blue (what's that about?!), but the client was REALLY bugging me.

We should not have to be doing this, but I think it's the lesser of two evils. At least I got the client out of my hair. Hope this helps.

When client's are that demanding, I let them know that the more they call the further down the line their return goes. Don't let your clients run your practice.

  10. Thanks everyone for your replies. Clients are considering changing Banks. I have a feeling that this will take a lobby effort as it appears that the 8109-B paper coupons cannot be charged for processing. NAFTA legislation created this, and if a bank refuses the 8109-B paper they can charge for the service of taking your deposits.

  11. @BulldogTom - Long replies wanted. Thanks for all that info. I like hearing about everyone's stories as I am still undecided where to take my qualifications / profession next. They are all helping.

@Lion - I was looking at the Gleim website this morning and got side tracked with other things. This is definitely something I'm going to look into further. On-line classes, exams, instructors would be the best way to go for me right now anyway.

One other item not mentioned for EA is that you are not limited by state like a CPA. Enrolled Agents can practice nationwide.
