  1. I don't post very much, but I do read the ATX Community Forum very day during tax season to see what is going on.

Just last week there was an issue I had been dealing with and there on the forum was the issue with just the information and the references to clarify the situation.

    Thanks for this Forum, Eric.

  2. Important News About E-filing Dates
For Forms 94x and Form 1041

The IRS has announced that the official opening day for e-filing has been revised for the following types of forms:

    • Forms 94x filed on the MeF (Modernized E-file) platform – e-filing will start on January 26, 2014
    • Form 1041 – e-filing will start on January 31, 2014

According to Rob Bedoya, Director e-File Services, IRS:
"The IRS will begin processing 94x payroll tax returns through the Modernized e-File (MeF) platform on January 26. MeF provides a number of benefits compared to the legacy system. Although the IRS will not start processing 94x returns through MeF until January 26, companies will begin taking in these returns earlier and will transmit them to the IRS beginning on January 26. We are confident that all MeF 94x returns will be timely processed before the fourth quarter and annual due date."

The SFS Electronic Filing Center (EFC) will begin accepting these return types later this month. We will hold all returns at the EFC until the IRS begins accepting them.

In order to e-file your tax returns, you must have the appropriate program version and your returns must include the latest EF Info form.

  3. I am reading this differently than ADG Financial: I copied this from the website....I have to register(as before) but I only prepare 3 NY returns, I don't have to pay until I do 10 or more.

    How do you read this?

In general, you must register if you:

    • are paid to prepare at least one New York State return in calendar year 2014 as a tax return preparer, or
    • help to issue or administer a refund anticipation loan or refund anticipation check.

You must pay a $100 registration fee if you are a commercial tax return preparer:

    • paid to prepare 10 or more New York State tax returns in calendar year 2013, and will be paid to prepare at least one tax return in calendar year 2014; or
    • will be paid to prepare 10 or more tax returns in calendar year 2014.

  4. Last week I was called by a Intuit rep asking "what would it take to switch from ATX to ProSeries software for the next Tax Season.

I asked how did you know that I used ATX last season. Oh, I got it from the IRS. It is public record.

Then I asked "Did you pay for that information" Yes, but it wasn't much.

    Anybody else getting these calls?

    Is it public record?

  5. I got a call last week about signing up for ATX. I told the agent that I am looking at other options, such as Drake. He wouldn't sweeten the price while I was on the call. Of course, he promised that this new software was going to be great compared to the 2012. I did not sign up.

But I am following you guys who are beta testing....and looking forward to you postings.

  6. OK, I have upgraded my computer and installed windows 7, I have a stand alone system.

How is 12.18 working now. I am still at 12.15.

I am assuming it is working fairly well as no postings since June 27th.

I have a bunch of returns to do and everything is working well now, but.....
