  1. In the past I have either contacted the company myself or had the taxpayer get the info for me. You need to find out who the custodian is.

I have a client who has this happen every year with 401(k). I know Box 7 is a code 8.

If all else fails, have to file as paper return.

I put the taxable earnings in Other Income .

  2. If you need to get into MyATX to get to the board, how many of us won't be able to even go there to check it out? I've been locked out since the end of January. No tech rep seems to have a solution.

For the most part, I don't care. It would be nice to be able to access the knowledge base but since I have all of you to lean on  that's not really important either.

I, too, have been locked out and after many times of trying to access, I have finally given up. I use only this board.

  3. Client converted $15,000 to a Roth from traditional IRA. 1099-R show the $15,000 with code 7. He realized he was over the $100,000 in income so he couldn't convert. In October 07, he reversed the transaction(recharacterize). So he get another 1099-R with code N for recharacterization. This 1099-R has box 1, $15000, box 2 has zero taxable, and code N.

How do I input the recharacterization 1099-R into ATX? ATX does not back out the $15000.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

  4. TP died 11/07. Spouse is filing as surviving spouse. ATX won't let me create efile with the following error:

Name is too long for efile (currently JOHN A DECD & JANE A SMITH) Truncate using ........ blah blah blah etc

I have had this error message with hyphenated last names and I know how to correct that. But I am thinking this error has to do with the "DECD" in the TP's name field. This "DECD" is not in the name field on the 1040 and I don't know how to get rid of it, if that is my problem.

Thought maybe someone has experienced this before and will know the answer to my problem(s).

(It's hard to find the solution if you don't know what the problem is)

    Thanks!!!!!

Take the DECD out of the name block. Go to the filer's info icon on the 1040. there is a spot for DOD for the tax payer below the spot for the DOB. What happens is that at the top of the 1040 it will list his name and date of death...that's it
