  1. Move every cent of business from them. They have obviously forgotten who pays who's paycheck and have no clue about customer service or loyalty. It is the exact same disease that is permeating the big banks everywhere. Look local, consider credit unions. We have had much luck there.

Totally agree with Jack. Seems like they (CU) have a different focus than the banks do.

  2. I just renewed Max for $995 plus the shipping charge and taxes. I think this is their standard offer (I think standard price is $1100+) so I would just call and ask and negotiate further if you are so inclined.

Agreed. I got that same offer.

  3. Haha, my husband spent his youth living in Decatur, Illinois and followed the Chi White Sox. I don't need to tell anyone how bad their year was, do I? We've all but turned off baseball for the year. The Phillies are our closest local MLB team and they need also to rebuild the team with younger players.

I think my husband probably dislikes both the Cards and the R Sox teams equally, and with FOX covering the series, I know that we won't be tuning in terribly much...or will wear out the "mute" button on the TV control if we watch at all. Neither of us can stand listening to Tim McCarver and Joe Buck.

    Agree, totally

  4. KC, no lack of derence here..but you are stating that "...no one but you really cares what goes on on the other Board, or what Bobby says".

That's your opinion not a fact.

I am proof that you assessment is incorrect.

    It irked me to hear Bobby's politcal commentary and I wouldn't be shocked if I was the only one;

Plus, I find FTM gave me a good needed laugh on numerous occassions during this most challenging tax season.

I think there is a broad concensus that FTM is a funny tax man.

I think that ari and FTM should have their own forum; that way.....................Anyway, the Bobby and Kimmie rant has gone on so long, I have lost track of who they are even supposed to be.

Definely, take your show to anyother forum, please. And FTM is not funny.

Glad to get that off my chest.

  5. Only 30 items?!?

After the 15th me and mine could probably give them an evaluation of a 100 items that did not work correctly and none that did work consistently. Programs still crash on efile creation, forms do not update when reopening slooooow lost assets, poor communication within program, I am tired I am still a month behind

Is this ATX's way of pretending to appease us?

Personally I am not going to waste anymore of my time!

ATX reached out and wanted to know what made this program worse than last year. I sent them a list of over 30 items, but I think we need to inform the rest of the community how many issues they created in their new iterration. I seem to find a couple every day. So lets post all the steps backwards for the rest to see.

Man, I must have gotten a different product than you four. WTH did I buy? It worked well. No stuff!!!

  6. No out that I am aware of.

    There is no exception.

I have a client that was in exactly the same situation, only the 1099R had code "L" in box 7, and to penalty was calculated. CP2000 says otherwise, and the code should have been "L1" instead.

    Thank you gentlemen.

  7. My client has received a 1099R with a distribution code L1 because her prior company closed down her 401(k) plan while she had a loan outstanding. She didn't pay it back and because she is under 50 years of age, it appears that she will have to pay a 10% penalty as well.

I have researched the instructions for form 5329 and find no exceptions that apply. Has anyone had this experience in the past and aware of an out for the penalty?

    Thank you.

  8. SFA,

I don't think my last post above yours even once mentioned ATX or bashed it, but if it is being taken that way I am truly sorry,

And no, I don't think you are out of line. your post was pleasant and respectful.

BTW, I am not bitter at ATX. Disappointed yes. I have been a user since 1999 and loved the software. If it does not get fixed or CCH has to discontinue it, I well be even more disappointed.

{Well actually I used it when it was first published and was little more than a Free Forms Software}.

    Hint. Hint

  9. I must be the luckiest ATX user ever. I just timed the program to open - 11 seconds; a very basic return - 4 seconds to open, 3 to close; a complex return (5 rentals, Sch. A,B,C, 8812,2441,8332, state and 2 locals - 22 seconds to open, 4 to close. Intel i5 and 8 GB ram and I don't even know what some of those other things mean. I have had no printing problems, just some annoyance at not having Adobe Pro for filing copies and lack of easy editing capability on letters.

What am I doing differently from so many others? Oh, yeah, living right

Maybe you are living right, Margaret, but I think I must be as well. All of the complaints on speed and crashes and the like are baffling to me. I just have a standalone operation and would be considered a small volume operation.

Honestly, I have none of the noted problems. I am not a cheer leader but it seems like almost a virus with all the complaints. It goes from bad to worse.

Sorry, I will get back to work; I don't think that ATX had its best year but it definitely has picked up the pace.

    No righteous indignation here.

  10. I have decided to take the aproach of reading the reviews after program updates before installing them. After seeing the reviews for 12.8, I decided to ask one of my internal contacts and was told "If you have not installed 12.8 don't." There is an unplanned 12.9 update today to address something that 12.8 broke.

    Ugh.

I guess I am one of the "lucky" ones using ATX. I haven't had any opearting software or computer issues for over two weeks. I am not doing any particularly chalenging returns but I don't feel that your problems apply only to complex returns.

Just my two cents. Hope thing get better for those of you with big problems soon.

  11. what version of quickbooks will you be using? I bought a new computer in January with a 64 bit and windows 7 and I could not get older verison of quickbooks to work on it. I know there is a work around but for me I could not do it in January. also heard on this board that some of the older atx programs wouldn't work on 64 bit

The Dell deal I mentioned includes a free upgrade to Widows 7 professional (64 bit)

  12. I'm in the market for a new computer. I definitely want to stick with Dell. But I'm not sure which make or model, or configuration. Any suggestions? I've heard there are some issues with the 64 bit operating system. I don't do any gaming or watching of videos, I will be using this computer strictly for business. I run mainly ATX software and Quickbooks.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Deb!

    Deb-

I just bought an Optiplex 380 (business class Dell) at their small business site. I found it at a link on Slickdeals but all the discount notifiers show it. Irt was 4GB RAM Dual Core 250 GB HD. Check it out. It was supposed to be available until March 17th. Price = $304 (pre tax)

  13. Not a chance. Methinks it was your reward for coming back to ATX; along with the reduced price for the Max package. A lot of us just have to bite the bullet.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrr..............

I'm still P.O.'d about that ridiculous marketing decision.

  14. Did it come by USPS or other shipper (UPS, FedEX)? And do the folks who bought ATX through TRX get it?

I'm asking because I am out of town right now and need to know if I need to send someone to pick it up off my porch!

    Thanks!

Mine came today - first class postage in an ATX envelope

  15. Has anyone renewed using the deferred payment option? I wonder if there is a service charge of some kind.

    taxbilly

No service charge for me. I just got charged up front for shipping and handling and will pay the balance when the first shipment is sent.
