  1. ATX User

I have one Ohio client. Got him from a business I purchased. I'm in Central PA.

They live in Hunting Valley Ohio 44022.

The w2 has no local wages or tax.

At the bottom of the w2 screen is information for the school district.

The question is do I need to do anything with the school district? If so which one and how much tax.

    Is there local tax?

    Help is appreciated

  2. I'm not sure what to call it but I had a 1040 return that would not calculate correctly. The standard deduction specifically was messed up. I had to delete and restart with a new 1040.

This return was converted from Drake.

Is there another way to fix a corrupted return other than deleting and restarting.

  3. Some of my workstations don't see any returns in the rollover manager. When you browse to the computer acting as the server and where the 2012 and 2103 programs are installed it says you don't have permission.

Some computers do see the returns in the rollover manager and some don't yet they all connect to the 2013 server and can see and open returns rolled over by others.

Server is brand new I5 win pro all workstations are win 7 pro.

    Any suggestions?

  4. Ok it was tech support who gave all the bogus info. My point was it was not a simple insert disk and network magically appeared.

My steps involved doing the following

    1. Removed all antivirus software and firewall.

    2. Update windows software server and desktops Share the drives, move the data storage location so carbonite would find it. Set carbonite to only run during off hours.

    3. Install server software from download not disk.

    4. Create users in atx before installing on desktop workstations

    5. Turn off user controls on server and on workstations

    6. All everyone access to server and all workstations

    7. Install to workstations using the download not the disk. Click install and select run as administrator.

    8. Open atx on workstation hopefully it connects if yes you are just about home free.

    9. install microsoft security essentials

    10. Now you can use it.

That's what I had to do with brand new dell xps as server/workstation. All of the win 7 pro desktops needed the down load software to connect didn't work with the cd.

Have 5 workstations and 1 workstation server.

  5. This is my story. Purchased new dell to be used as my tax server. Win 7 pro. Upgraded all win 7 computers to pro.

Installed the software from disk onto the server. Choose network server/workstation option. Program installed. Program updated itself then I had to purchase unlimited license to allow more than three users.

Went to workstation with disk installed stanalone. Clicked atx 2013 icon got error message. Tried on another machine same message. Called my tech guy. He removed firewalls, virus software, opened up permissions made sure every computer had access. Still got error message. Tried something else and whamo one workstation connects.

Still no luck on other workstations. Call ATX support. Tech says we need to map the netowork drive. I belive this to be bull but away we go. My tech guy says we didn't map drive for the other workstation and it connected. Tech says you probably installed standalone on that workstation. Nonsense.

Well it turns out that the CD did not work on the workstations. I had to downoload the progam from the web site and run it. Got error message not same one as before. Close error message reopen atx 2013 and this time it connects.

The only machine in the office to connect on the first attempt with no speical coaxing was the good old xp. Go figure.

Now to install 2012 and get everyone in office to log in and have at it.

Oh computer guy says upgrade your switch to 10/100/1000. Says it will be faster. Well see.

The moral of this story is that even with all new hardware the install was not a simple process.

  6. Jack,

Thanks for the help. Taxed, the terminal server was not supported in earlier versions yet it worked well for us. Hopefully this version will work as well. If not I'll need to be prepared with a plan B.

Jack does your setup include using a terminal sever. We do over 2000 returns and I need to avoid last years issues.

  7. Just purchased the client accouting suite with payroll. Use MAX for tax software. My comment is that it seems complicated to get into the payroll side of things. Anyone done it recently that wants to share. I purchased a tax practice and got a bookeeping business with it. The old owner stayed on. I wanted to utilize ATX to get one system in place.

    Any pointers helpful.
