  1. I am e-filing a 1041 with tax amount due. Form 8879-F is available which is like other tax returns that are e-filed. However, no e-file payment voucher seems to be available. What form does the trustee send with payment on 4/15? If it is Form 8453-F, this form has to be sent within 3 days of e-file acceptance with attachments (check). However, payment isn't due until 4/15. So I am at a loss as to what to tell the client to use when mailing the check. Thanks for your help.
  2. Maribeth, OK, I set the UPE up as a separate partnership and used the same partnership name and number but entered the UPE on line 20 W. I still get the same error message and can't set the return up for e-filing. David
  3. Thanks for your help on this. Unless I am not completely understanding your comment, I think I did what you suggested. On the Line 2 SE worksheet I entered the self-employment income from the K-1 on line 2. Line 4 of the worksheet says "Less from K-1 input Worksheet (1065) - Unreimbursed partnership expenses" and this is the line I entered the UPE. There is nothing entered on line 5. This is exactly the same way I handled UPE in the 2006 tax return and I was able to e-file with no problem. I'm not sure why this would change in 2007- if it wasn't broke why did ATX "fix" it? Did I misunderstand your reply or is the way I explained what I did, the same as your recommendation? Thanks. David
  4. It also doesn't apply to general or limited partnerships according to the link. So what's left other than a sole proprietorships? And they were filed on Sch C anyway. So what's the big change that everyone is talking about? I must be missing something here. It doesn't seem like anything is different. Thanks, David
  5. BTW, I handled the UPE the same way as I did on the 2006 tax return. I had no problem e-filing the 2006 tax return by entering the UPE on the UPE line of the K-1. I did not have to set up a separate partnership. Did something change in 2007? Thanks, David
  6. No, I entered it as UPE on line 20 W of the K-1. If this isn't where it should be entered, why is that line there? So if I set up it up as another partnership and enter the $ on line 20 W won't I get the same error? The error said that if there are UPE then I have to paper file. This will still show as UPE. Thanks, David
  7. I just tried to set up an individual tax return for e-filing but the ATX program would not allow me to e-file. The message says that I have to paper file because line 2 of the SE form includes unreimbursed partnership expenses. I was able to e-file the return last year. There is no difference between the way I handled things in this year's tax return. Has anyone else had this problem? What needs to be done to allow this return to be e-filed? Thanks.
  8. Thanks, guys for your input. Joel, do you mind telling me what your fees are for QB merchant services? Thanks, David
  9. Does anyone who is using ATX merchant services have any feedback? I might consider purchasing it if it is worthwhile. Thanks.
  10. I want to confirm that if someone meets all the other requirements for the $250K gain exclusion for the sale of their primary residence, that even if they sold a house for more than the amount paid for their new home, that they still get the exclusion. Thanks.
  11. I have an LLC which has active member-managers as well as passive LLC members. The ATX K-1 is allocating all the nonrecourse and qualified nonrecourse debt to all the members regardless of whether they are member-managers or just members and regardless of whether they are active or passive members. Is ATX treating this correctly or is there something else I need to do. If my understanding of LLC member's share of liabilities is correct, passive LLC members shouldn't be allocated a share of LLC debt, should they? Thanks for your help.
  12. I looked over the materials explaining document manager and scan/fill but realize the materials are marketing the products to be the best thing since toilet paper. Currently I scan or save documents to a client folder by year in the explorer directory. If I start using ATX document manager will I be totally ecstatic with the features and ease of use vs. the way I am currently using the explorer directory? Or will I be sadly disappointed? The product description makes it seem as though I can easily move my existing client folders over to document manager with ease and keep the same organization- "client" folder with "year" subfolders below. Can those of you who use document manager give me some feedback on this product? Is it better and a lot easier to use than using the explorer directory? As far as the scan/fill product- it sounds great and I would love to have that feature. I have the 2006 demo program but haven't tried using it since the input from this forum indicates that the program doesn't bring the information into the ATX tax program like it should. Has anyone had good luck with the scan/fill product? I don't want to waste my time trying it out if it is worthless. Thanks.
  13. In the past the TTO subscription included the hard copy manuals for 1040 and business quick answers, the tax guide and others. I have not received any of these yet. I apologize if this has been asked before- I did a search and didn't see anything about this. Does anybody know what's going on with these? I have already received the Master Tax guide from an Edward Jones rep. This is the same tax guide as the one we get in our TTO package which, if I'm not mistaken, is printed by CCH. Hmmmm... funny how others already have the Master Tax Guide prepared by CCH but we don't have it yet. Thanks.
  14. I thought I read somewhere that one of the new features for 2007 was business tax organizers. I can't find them anywhere in the software. Was I mistaken or are they tucked away somewhere? Thanks.
  15. Thanks so much. Now I am able to get in.
  16. Thanks for your input. I haven't read through the ATX merchant services information as I was waiting on input before I try to get familiar with something new. I think it said I don't need a card reader, which sounds great to me. I'm not familiar with how this would work and was wondering if others have purchased this service and how they have liked it. Thanks.
  17. I used to go to the Kleinrock website to use my Kleinrock subscription. This year I have to go through MyATX to use my Kleinrock research product (the Kleinrock website doesn't know me anymore and says I don't have a subscription). I no longer have access to Kleinrock TaxTalk. The site says that my username/email is not authorized to use the forum. I looked on the MyATX site thinking that, like the Kleinrock research subscription, I had to go through the ATX site to get on the TaxTalk forum. Has anyone else experienced this? How do we get back on the TaxTalk forum? Thanks.
  18. Has anyone used the merchant services offered by ATX? I have never accepted credit cards before and may look at doing so. Thanks for your input.
  19. It seems as though we are able to run the 2007 tax organizers in the 2007 ATX tax program as well as the 2006 tax program. This is not like past years where we always had to run the current year tax organizer from the prior year tax program. Am I overlooking something that may not work correctly if I run the organizers from the 2007 program vs. the 2006 program? Thanks.
