  1. A client who is a union official takes the board members of the union and other local officals out to dinner or drinks. He has all the receipts and states that it is to discuss issues related to his union and the industry he works within. Are the meals and entertainment cost deductible? Thank you Jeff
  2. Schirallicpa: Thank you for the information. Learned something new today. Again thank you Jeff
  3. Have a client who married last year. The wife's maiden name is on her W-2. She states that she has had her name changed at the Social Security to her married name. However, her employer still has her maiden name on the W-2. Can I E-File this return or will the wife have to go to her employer and request a corrected W-2? First time I have had this situation. Thank you, Jeff
  4. Taxpayer is past years has been able to deduct mother as a dependent. Mother lives in own home, and her only income is Social Security. She had some savings and decided to remodel the outside of her home with new siding and windows. The mother withdrew from her savings to pay for the siding and the daughter paid for the new windows. My question is this, can we add the amount paid for the windows as support for her mother? The old windows were in very bad conditon. However, I do not believe this would count as a maintenance cost, but a capital improvement to the house. Would appreicate your input. Thank you, Jeff

    1099 Code T

Don Thank you for the information. It was a big help. Jeff
  6. Have a client who took a distribution from his Roth IRA. He is 62 years old and made a conversion from a traditional IRA to a Roth well over 5 year ago. Everything was done correctly with the conversion. The 1099 in box 7 has a code T. I have researched form 8606 and believe we have to report the distribution only on line 16a form 1040 as non-taxable income. In addition is this the correct code or should the T be a 7 for for a normal distribution? Thank you
