Taxpayer is past years has been able to deduct mother as a dependent. Mother lives in own home, and her only income is Social Security. She had some savings and decided to remodel the outside of her home with new siding and windows.
The mother withdrew from her savings to pay for the siding and the daughter paid for the new windows.
My question is this, can we add the amount paid for the windows as support for her mother?
The old windows were in very bad conditon. However, I do not believe this would count as a maintenance cost, but a capital improvement to the house.
Would appreicate your input.
Thank you,
Jeff
