  1. I received all of mine last week. But I'm still waiting on seven 940's and I'm not getting any answers from ATX (Imagine that).

But I'm on hold right now, and I'm not hanging up until I have my ACK's or it's time to go home -- whichever comes first.

Edited to add: Same story, 2nd verse. Donna w/ATX called the E-Filing Center of the IRS and they stated that they (IRS) was having issues with the 940/941 ACKs -- they hope to have it solved in a few days.

  2. Yesterday, I printed off my corporate Depreciation for 2007. I used this amount in my calculations of TAXABLE INCOME.

After doing an update this morning to ATX -- my depreciation was all of a sudden $5325 HIGHER. I thought WT???? So I went back to compare what I printed yesterday vs what is there today.

I have 3 company vehicles (listed property-100% business use, fully depreciated) used by the salesmen. Everyone one of them had additional $1775 depreciation for 2007 -- keep in mind, these 3 vehicles were fully depreciated. Now I have accum depreciation over the basis.

WHAT is ATX doing this year? Have they not heard of: If it ain't broke -- don't try to fix it????

I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem yet and to make everyone aware of this -- Check your Depreciation!

  3. My niece is going to school in California and has a Work Study W-2 for $2650 (no withholdings).

What are the filing requirements for California? She has to file a federal return to report the sale of a Mutual fund for $10K (Loss of $2,000). She is a Nebraska resident and still claimed on her parent's return.

I haven't done a Calif. return in over 5 years. I thought it would be faster to just ask here than to sift thru the California website/forms for the filing requirements.

    Thanks in advance.

    Chris

  4. jjones1157, do you have the same problem hooking your laptop up to the router? If so, I would buy a different router and be done with it. I use D-Link and have had no problems. But I also don't use the Windows Firewall -- I use AVG Firewall and Antivirus. You don't happen to use Norton Security do you? I had all kinds of problems with that and connecting to the internet.

  5. RJM, ok -- just wanted to make sure.

I know some people don't have any idea what IRS E-Services are. Doesn't that work great??? I remember when it used to take WEEKS to get a transcript from the IRS. Now we can have it in a matter of a few minutes.

  6. RJM, I didn't call IRS E-file. I went to E-SERVICES online with the IRS. I checked the transcript of my clients. The ones that I have acceptances back on, are showing on the client's transcript. The others are not.

I don't have much faith in the IRS this year either. They are STILL processing an amended 940EZ from 2005 (it will be a year in May -- my inquiries are returned with, we are still working on it).

  7. ACS, my last phone call with ATX regarding this issue was last Friday -- NO WAY was I calling yesterday (Monday's are nuts anyways). But it's time for another call.

I have 7 missing 940's ACK's -- I have given the ID's to TWO people. The last one said: They cannot re-generate the ACK's any more but they will have to manually FAX the ACK's to us. I have checked e-services at IRS and they do not have any record of receiving the forms.

  8. Just received this from ATX:

IRS begins accepting AMT related forms February 11, 2008

    February 8, 2008

The IRS will begin accepting returns containing the following forms on the evening drain (6 PM local) of February 11, 2008:

    - 1040A, Sch 2 - Child/Dependent Care Expenses

    - 5695 - Residential Energy Credit

    - 8396 - Mortgage Interest Credit

    - 8859 - DC First-Time Homebuyer Credit

    - 8863 - Education Credits

Our application will begin allowing the creation of e-files with these forms the morning of the 11th. We ask that you withhold transmitting affected returns until after the morning drain (11 AM) at the respective service center where your return will be filed. Returns transmitted before the evening drain will be rejected by IRS. Additionally, due to projected volume, IRS is anticipating acknowledgements will be delayed by 11 to 12 hours during the first week of AMT-allowed return filing.

  9. What an excuse. Is that the reason hold time is so long because our clients have the tech support number. Realllllly. Pleeease.

When I call E-file Help Desk (IRS), I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes. Of course, I have only had to call them twice -- in 5 years.

But why on earth would a PRACTIONER give a client the phone number of a PRACTIONER help line?

  10. Agreed 100%. I've told all my clients that have asked that I am not excited about this silly rebate. None of them seem to get it.

I've already started to warn my early filers that they they shouldn't expect their large refund this time next year because they will be getting part of it in late spring, early summer.

They just look at me with glazed over eyes, and shake their head yes like they understand. The "Deer in Headlight" look.
