  1. Now I am assuming that some her state assistance does include the home she's staying in... like sec 8 or HUD home program and Habitat for Humanity type programs? I have several clients in these situations and they come out fine every year. I even missed a form 8812 on a client one year and IRS contacted them and told them that had me amend the return so they could get it! :)

  2. Here's my take on it all... She meets all requirements as far as the EIC is concerned we got that part. Now as for the qualifying for HOH, the child does not have to be a dependent to qualify, but her income really doesnt factor in except in perception which is not in any of the rules. Yeah we know its impossible to support 3 children on just 7,000, but thats just the stated amount on paper she gets. Sure she's getting money from boyfriend, but he has no relationship to them except support so that knocks him out for claiming. The state may be giving assistance, but the state cant possibly claim the kids right? lol! Basically, the support she gets from the state is in her name. She has to qualify for it so it is through her that the support passes to the children. She is the provider of that support for them, thus she can file HOH. There's no max or min amt of income she must have to claim it. The law just says support by what ever means it comes from (legal) she is covered. Now that's just my rationale of the situation. Please chime in and let me know what you think everyone....

  3. WOW! That sucks... The client who got this is as sweet as she can be and lost her job last year. House in foreclosure, has a son and disabled mother who stays with her. I swear some good people just can't catch a break. :dunno:

  4. I think the codes are I for IRS, D for everything else and B for both.

Glad I seen this today b/c got a client's return that came up that code "B" this morning. Now I can at least tell her what its for... :(

  5. I always tell my clients that they may have a delay due to system problems. I NEVER give anyone a firm date to expect a refund or action on anything. (They still blame me, but at least I know that I warned them.)

From now on I'll just say "don't call me, I'll call you.... Literally, don't call!!" LOL!

  6. I got it but the problem now is that I do not find the way to center the wording in the middle (is showing on the left side) and the three aligment tabs don't look to funtion in this situation. Even though I center the wording by myself when opening the real letter it still will show on the left.

I will continue trying. Wish me luck.

Good Luck! I think the problem is that the program is based on excel so doesn't function well with the letter formats like if in "word." :dunno:

  7. Well let me clarify my case and point if you will... Now if Line 60 is "0" and if any payments made on Lines 61-70 (special attn given to Line 63 in this case) were made, they would be refunded back to TP since there's no "tax liability" (Line 60) for that amount of Line 71 to go against. Hence, the TP is entitled to the amount calculated on Sch M. Guess used 400.00 as an example of an amount derived from calculation on Sch M. Please forgive for the ambiguity of the amount used...

  8. I have efiled and waiting for acks and get the message that I cannot connect with server. I think the problem is on their end. I'll just try later.

I sent out 4 last night and they went through fine. May have something to do with your settings like Pacun stated earlier. Check firewall.

  9. I have 8 ready to eFile but when I click on transmit I get an Error message saying Failed to connect with EFC server. Have tried ever since the morning of the 15th. Guess I need to call Customer service. Worked fine last year but got a new computer and that may be my problem.

Sounds like a connectivity problem. Check you internet connection on computer and make sure you have updated your program to lastest update.

  10. Just out of my personal curiosity and without intending to make any value judgment, what would the RAL cost on average in each of the following situations?:

    1) $ 500 refund

    2) $1,000 refund

    3) $2,000 refund

    4) $4,000 refund

I'm thinking of additional cost over and above a regular return preparation & filing, unless there are some RAL-related charges embedded in the basic fee.

I'm with Republic Bank and their fee is like 0.78% of refund plus 29.95 acct set-up, 21.00 cch tech fee, 10.00 transmitter fee then preparer fees.

I've have actually built my biz on RAL's! No matter what opinions we have about them, they are a neccessary evil in our field. People want their money and want it asap. Not worried about the fee b/c the need for the refund sooner outweighs that in their mind. And in business you have to compete for the clients that are out there to survive. Now my next question is; How do I pick up those newly neglected JH customers??!! :scratch_head:

  11. You only need the 1310 if there is a refund due, and the person claiming the refund fits one of the categories in Part 1 of the form. If there is no surviving spouse, and there is a refund, you will need it. It's pretty self-explanatory tho, so you should have no trouble with it.

    Thx! KC!

  12. Individual (1040) e-file Began January 15, 2010

This is from a 12/14/09 notification from the IRS.

... and 1st ACKS will post on Sunday 1/17/2010... after friday, i believe that will be the next answer you'll be looking for! :P

  13. Isn't the mother and uncle the owners of the grandmother's trust?

    >>A trust is just a separate entity, no different than buying from a corporation or an estate.<<

What if the taxpayer is buying the residence from his solely owned S-Corporation? Would they be related parties?

    taxbilly

Yes! If he owns more than 50% of the shares and is not entitled to take the credit.... Sorry! :(
