TRX 2012: File Cabinet Scanner Issues

Crank

Recommended Posts

Doug,

I thought this might be a good thread for those of us unable to get our scanners to work with the TRX 2012 File Cabinet feature. That way Doug can have them all one place (assuming there are others) without having to look in various threads.

Im using a Cannon "CanoScan LiDE 110" scanner (TWAIN compliant, purchased in 2012) and havent been able to get it to scan using the "File Cabinet" feature. When I attempt to scan I get the message "error in scanning doc". I dont think the software is even recognizing the scanner.

Details can be found here: http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/scanners/photo_scanners/canoscan_lide110#Specifications

I really like this scanner. Affordable, functional and runs off the USB port with no additional power needed. If anyone is interested here is the Amazon link.

I had problem with the Cannon and actually this exact model. The Brother works great. Actually someone else on here had this issue and tried their alternative Brother and it worked great. Doug

I believe that was me Doug. I have a six year old Brother Inkjet All-In-One printer, copier, fax & scanner. I does work but doesnt have near the features, is much slowers and not suitable for scanning a high volume of documents. Thats why I bought the Cannon last year.

Will the Cannon be functional?

I will find out, I do not know how hard it is to add the additional working scanners. But I think we need to if possible.

Crank if you have a scanner that does not work with a particular business software, you can try this method. It is a bit cumbersome.

I am assuming your scanner came with a scanning software (most do these days) that will let you scan a document into a PDF file. yOu can then move that PDF file into the electronic file cabinet. Just make sure you follow the naming convention of your business software so that it is visible from the business software.

I have tried this and it does work but is cumbersome. The best option is obviously to use a scanner that works directly with the software.

Are you going paperless this tax season? I have been trying to go paperless for last 2 seasons but always run into software issue where you can not keep details on each field etc. You end up keeping notes on legal pad and sticking in the client file. I scan all the usual tax docs like W2, 1099R etc. I guess at my old age i need all the help trying to remember what I did!

Ive been basically paperless for a while. Scan all docs, use note fields and other notes all tripple backed up including the cloud. Its a bit more work at first but has become almost second nature. Having only about 100 returns makes it a bit easier too.
