Christian
I recently received a reject on an efile submission noting a mismatch between the client's name on file and her now married name. I resubmitted it using her maiden name from the prior year. I checked the IRS site for a name change form to include in her efile but a couple of searches produced nothing. Do any of you know a form that addresses this issue ?
Ringers
I had this happen to me in past years. The name on the 1040 must match exactly with the name as it appears on the t/p Social Security card. When the name is changed on the SS card, it will be updated with IRS and IRS will accept the e-file. In the interim, file it with the name as it currently appears on t/p's SS card. David1980
https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/Article/1995/-ow%20do%20I%20change%20the%20name%20on%C2%A0a%20Social%20Security%20card? Name changes are handled through SSA so I doubt you'll find anything on the IRS website. RINGERS is correct, in the interim just use whatever the old one is. KINGCHUCK1971
The client has to address the SSA about the name change not you.
