JACKSORH
Clients only income was from SSI payments which does not qualify for a rebate. However, they did receive a $300. payment. Am I wrong to assume that they did qualify. I believe IRS made a mistake. Please respond.
jainen
>>they did receive a $300 payment<< Apparently they filed a 2007 tax return reporting at least $3000 of qualifying income. I wouldn't call that an error on the part of the IRS.
JACKSORH
As stated earlier, they received SSI payments which amounted to $7200 which because of their rental payments, they qualified for a homestead credit for Wisconsin. This is the only form that was filed for taxyear 2007. Again, I think IRS was in error in sending the $300. stimulus payment to my client. JohnH
You seem to be basing your assumptions on the fact that you prepared the returns correctly, but are you taking into account there may be a filing you don't know about? I've already heard of a couple of situations in which the taxpayer, a family member, or a friend separately filed a stimulus return when the taxpayer was not entitled to receive the payment. This could easily have been done without your knowledge, and maybe even without the taxpayer fully understanding what was done on their behalf by a well-meaning but uninformed friend. MDCPA
I agree with Jainen and JohnH. The client, or someone else, may have have thought that SSI was qualifying income and filed the return.
