robpeterson Posted October 6, 2009 Report Share Posted October 6, 2009 We have been using ATX since 1999. We are considering Scan and Fill with Document Manager. Or maybe just Document Manager. I looked at a demo of this and realize it's made to be integrated with ATX software. We are trying to cut down on paper but wonder if scanning all client docs into our system is going to be any easier.??? Also, I was just wondering if there is another document manager out there that would also work with ATX, cost about the same or less, and maybe have more / better features. kcjenkins Posted October 7, 2009 Report Share Posted October 7, 2009 First, get a GOOD SCANNER, as this is not the place to pinch pennies. Its a valuable TOOL, no matter what program you use. Second, you don't have to have any document manager, if you simply set up your own system of folders. Several members have posted here about their own systems that they set up, and are happy with. The ATX Doc Manager does tie in automatically with the tax program, which is convenient. It's not as good as it should [iMHO] be, but it's included with my package, and it works. There are also a number of stand alone programs that are good, plus have the advantage of not being tied to any program, so you can use them for not only Tax, but other files as well. Of course, you can use the ATX program for other files, as well. Why not use the live web demo and see what you think of it? RoyDaleOne Posted October 9, 2009 Report Share Posted October 9, 2009 KC, right on. I saw an ad for a Fujitsu scanner, I would say this is the brand to go with. Features, automatic size detection, automatic duplex scanning, etc. Client documentation cames in all sizes, single and duplex. I am thinking about replacing my one year old scanner with this model, for most of my scanner needs. Jake Posted October 9, 2009 Report Share Posted October 9, 2009 I agree with KC having a good scanner will save you a lot of time and frustration in implementing a paperless system. Make sure you get one that can scan both sides of a document for all of the IRS Notices. We also do about a thousand returns every year and started using Document Manager two years ago. What I like about the program is the fact that it is intergrated with ATX so if I select the print to PDF button in the print menu it automaticly files the return in document manager under the clients name and SS#. What I don't like about the program is that it takes forever to open the program and access client files (2-3 minutes sometimes) and that the program is bit tempremental in that it freezes up or stops working more than it should. It creates much bigger (more disk space) pdf files than printing to a pdf printer like adobe or pdf995. One problem, though, is some returns (I think with EIC) have to use the ATX pdf to create an electronic copy. Another suggestion about scanners, buy one that is TWAIN compliant. I just bought a Fujitsu FI-5015C on E-bay with warraty for cheap. I am ready to try it out and get back into these threads to get started. Just another reason I appreciate this forum.
