Has to travel to where the ship is docked in another state when they ship out, twice a month. At sea two weeks - off for 2 weeks. Ship is not at the same port each time, but always out of state. This week it will be New Orleans. Asked about travel to the ship - commuting or deductible? It is not reimbursed. I can't find anything definitive - he says there are "special" rules for Merchant Marines. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. joelgilb Posted March 5, 2010 Report Share Posted March 5, 2010 be careful with writing off all sorts of expenses for these so called merchant mariners. I have a number from Louisiana and they actually work for private companies, where all the food and even some of their incidentals are paid for or provided by the company.
